Hi there, I'm new to this forum and just need to know how people measure scenes in movies(as in spl in various scenes.I have read many threads where members talk about measuring (eg 114 db )at a certain frequency in a particuliar scene of a movie. This will seem like an incredibly stupid question, but please keep in mind that I have no knowledge of these things and need help in understanding them.My question is how do you measure loudness in a movie eg(The Matrix) to test your equipment, like so many have done. And how do know what frequency you are hitting at these spls. Please give feedback to help me out.Forgive me for my stupidity.

I think what you see quoted here, for the most part, are measurements made with a Radio Shack meter (although there are others). It is a combined SPL reading of ALL frequencies of the scene in question.

Most of it will probably low frequency information but it is all speakers combined unless it specifically states it is not.

Best regards.
