So I finally got my digital SPL from Radio Shack and i've been dieing to try it out on my sound system. I just set up all my equipment in my new room (fairly small, actually, really small) and I am trying to figure this SPL thing out.

I've been doing a little reading and it seems like I should have my meter weighting set to C, my response to "slow" and my range to 70. I also have my sound system (Onkyo HT-S790) set to around 35 right now for the multichannel inputs. I go into my set up to play it's pink noise to calibrate. With everything at 0 and my sound system level at 35 I get a LO to 60 rating on the SPL. From what I've read, I'm supposed to calibrate it to 75.

This would be really loud if I did this. I think my speakers only go to +12, and at + 6 the SPL reads 64. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Sam

Your settings are correct on the meter.

Just turn the receiver volume up (past 35) until you measure 75db at the listening position from the front, left speaker. Adjust the other speakers to 75db using the receiver's individual channel adjustments.

The idea is to get all speakers playing at the same level. 75db is just a reference point.
