Hi, I am a newbie to this forum and have found it extremely helpful.
I just picked up an LN-S3251D last week. I assumed that the HD cable box from RCN would have an HDMI output just like the HD-DVR from them does. I have one of RCN's HD-DVR's connected to an LN-R408D in my living room and it has a perfect picture using an HDMI connection. However when the cable guy installed the box I discovered that it only came with a DVI output. As I didn't have a DVI-HDMI cable readily available, I initially connected the cable box to the LN-S3251D with a component cable that I owned. The picture was perfect. Yesterday I went over to Radio Shack and purchased one of their house brand DVI-HDMI cables. When I hooked it up and turned on the set, I had a split screen image. From the left side of the screen, two thirds of the screen had an image followed by the same image repeating on the right side of the screen.
I spent 1/2 hour with Samsung's tech support on the phone, and after trying various things we discovered that this split screen issue only occurred if I turned on the cable box first and the LN-S3251D next. When I powered up the LN-S3251D first and then turned on the cable box, the image was normal. Samsung's techie suggested that the issue was either with the HD box from RCN (Motorola DCT6200/1000) or the DVI-HDMI cable that I purchased from Radio Shack.
I then spoke to RCN's tech dept. and they checked out all of the settings in the box. When he tried changing the HD box setting from 720p to 1080i, it caused four instead of two split images on the screen. So he went back to the 720p setting for the box and suggested that I either switch to their HD-DVR that has an HDMI output and pay the extra monthly charge for it or switch the RS DVI-HDMI cable to another another brand such as Monster's which is $70 more.
Has anyone else ever experienced this type of problem before? I would appreciate any recommendations to fix this issue as the DVI-HDMI cable should provide a normal picture.
