Seems a few of us just completed this game so I figured it might be worthwhile to setup a thread to discuss the plot. The first post is going to be a warning (as if the title isn't enough).

First off, I enjoyed this game immensely, and would pay another $65 right now to play a game of similar fashion. Here's hoping it's successful so we see some more games like this.

I have to say I made quite a few mistakes throughout the game, but took more of a instinctive approach to playing it. I didn't listen to too many thoughts in the characters heads, and really wanted to see how it played out with the way I reacted.

Some of the major points where I feel I could have done something different:

1) When Jayden and Blake were in the Jesus worshipper's apartment, I managed to talk him into putting the gun down, but as Blake was about to cuff him a sudden movement and an R1 prompt had me a little trigger happy and I killed him. I was actually on edge waiting to find out what was going to happen to Jayden, but was left a little disappointed that this didn't have more consequences other then a brief discussion with Blake in the next Jayden scene.

2) In the third trial, given the option to shoot the drug dealer or put my gun away, I decided to shoot (hell, the prick was coming at me with a shotty - he would have killed me if he didn't run out of bullets). I was quick on the trigger (have to say I loved the animation) and didn't put much thought into it. After taking the picture, I was left wondering if there was a way I could have faked his death, but at that point, I had already cut my finger off, so I wasn't stopping there. I thought this would have had an impact on the ending, but didn't seem to.

3) After Shelby got the knots untied in the car at the bottom of the river, I smashed the window and got out of there without Lauren. It all happened so quick that I forgot to untie her knots. I really wish I could have gone back and done this, as after seeing the ending, I'm extremely curious as to what would have happened to Lauren.

Endings:

Well, I screwed up pretty bad during my first playthrough of the ending (I went back and played the last scene again), and here is how it went:

Madison error - When Madison shows up on scene and manages to escape the grasp of the cop, I ran over to the bike and didn't realize I needed to hold down R2, so ended up hitting it twice, only to be cuffed and unable to convince the cops that Ethan was innocent. This lead to Ethan opening up the doors to the warehouse after saving his son, only to find Blake giving the order to open fire. Ethan dies, and it leads to a scene where Madison is looking on as Shawn and the mother are at Ethan's grave. Madison later goes on to publishing a book on the Origami Killer.

Jayden somewhat error - In the fight with Shelby, when given the option to save Shelby, I hit the button but it didn't seem to register. I was too late in hitting it again, and Shelby dies in the shredder. The newscast never identifies Shelby as the Origami killer, and I'm not sure what lead to this consequence (I think it may have to do with Ethan dying). Jayden goes on a talk show, kicks his drug habit, but Ari ends up getting the best of him as 3 virtual tanks invade his desk even after he takes the glasses off. I'm assuming this was a consequence of using Ari too much. The only pan of Shelby is his grave.

Now after messing up the Madison bit, I noticed I could play the last chapter again based on what I had done up to that point - so I managed to get on the bike, escaping the cops, and entering the warehouse to warn Ethan. I saved Shelby, only for him to try to fight me again, and end up backing him into the shredder for a 2nd time. Ethan, Shawn, and Madison emerge from the warehouse unharmed, and the ending pans the origami killer being identified as Shelby, and Madison and Ethan getting an apartment together with a happy Shawn with them. I'm assuming this could have played out differently had I decided not to get my groove on with Madison. Jayden still goes the same route with this ending, and only a pan to Shelby's grave as well.

I'm thinking I could have got out of the Jayden ending had he not used Ari too much to find out Shelby wss the killer, and instead let Madison inform him when she had the option to call him or Ethan. I think Ethan could have still got to Shawn had he decided not to go through the trials if I allowed Madison to call Ethan.

I have to say I really enjoyed the game, had a Hollywood production style and story, and wasn't really ever distracted the voice acting.

Anyone watch the casting call in the extras with the girl playing Lauren? That was pretty cool.

Oh, and I missed out on the Madison shower scene, as I was too busy making a cup of joe. Damn virtual boobies.

If you let Jayden die at the hands of 'Bubba' (Mad Jack) at the junkyard, Madison fights Scott at the end. And, if you let Scott kill her, he gets away with the crime. I'm going to play like this the second time through. You have to, to earn the 'Perfect Crime' gold trophy.

I was just wondering if there could be two different killers. Scott seemed to far off to be the 'twin' of Johnny. Blake seemed perfect, though. Both in age and mentality.

No, Scott Shelby will always end up being the killer. IGN has walkthough of all the endings.

My ending went down like this...

Ethan saved Shaun. Madison escaped the cops and warns Ethan not to go outside or he'll get shot. In the meantime, while Shelby and Jayden are fighting outside, I screwed up and accidently killed Jayden (was a pretty brutally awesome kill though) and Shelby gets away for the time being. Ethan, Shaun and Madison are shown moving into an apartment and they live happily ever after. The news broadcast sites Shelby as the killer and recognizes Jayden's work on the case and the fact that he died at the warehouse site. Shelby is shown walking down the sidewalk towards Lauren (I saved her from the car underwater). She says she called all the victim's parents and none of them had hired Shelby as their P.I., and she said she swore she would kill the man who murdered her son. She pulls out a gun and shoots him in the face. Awesome ending.

I haven't gone back and replayed any of the scenes yet, I let it unfold the way it went down for my 1st playthrough. BTW, I didn't drink coffee in Madison's first scene...straight to the shower and I'll have to say it was the hottest scene I've seen in a video game...was a nice surprise. :p

Had a question for you guys about the scene with Madison and the creepy doctor she goes to buy drugs from and find out who he rents the apartment building to. Did anyone else accept the drink he offers you and than did you actually drink from the glass? If you did, you know he ties you up and tries to rape/kill you in the basement (before I ultimately killed him). My questions is, if you don't drink from the glass, does all that crazy **** still go down? I'm going to have to replay that one just to see what happens. I thought for sure I'd killed Madison before the doorbell rang!

Also, I definitely killed the Jesus freak, the drug dealer/dad, and pretty much everyone else they gave me the option to kill. I thought it was ironic though that the only person I ended up saving or letting live was when I had Shelby give the rich guy (Kramer?) his pills when he was about to have a heart attack.

That's too bad. I thought it could go down differently if I let him die at an earlier point in the story. It seemed like they could've made a couple of the characters turn out to be the killer. Either way, I'm still going to play thru it a few more times and replay a lot of the levels to see what I could've done differently.

I like your ending Smitty. I'd like to see a portion of that, at least see Lauren blow Shelby's brains out.

I drank the drink like an idiot too - knowing full well he was setting me up. I thought I was dead - crazy scene.

I let Kramer die. In retrospect, I should have grabbed the pills and just not given them to him. I loved the scene leading up to it though - blasting all his goons.

I really loved how the credits started out with you blasting the drug dealer. One of the best animations in the game - total amatuer looking gunshot, but it rocked.

Finished the game-amazing!!!!

Now I'm wondering how to go about getting all the other endings trophies. How does the save system work? If i use chapter select will it ask me to save in a different slot or does it auto save over my other file? Should i just start a new game?

Here's what happened to me, and I'm a little disappointed at the resolution. I didn't shoot the drug dealer so I never got that part of the address. I did drink the poison and got all of hte other clues. So when I went to put in the address into the gps I chose the wrong location and it just shows ethan lay there in the street, presumably to die of poisoning.

So as Madison, I call Jayden and he meets me at the warehouse. He saves Shaun by giving him cpr as madison fights scott. Scott is about to kill madison when jayden comes from behind and shoots him in hte back and he plunges to his death in a pool of water.

What gets me is next scene I see is ethan, madison and shaun moving into an apartment. How the hell is Ethan still alive? Then it goes to show Jayden doing a talk show circuit and kicking his habit. Kind of a ****** wrap up if you ask me.

The poison doesn't kill you Remo. Anyways my first ending has Ethan saving Shaun, Madison being apprehended by the cops outside of the warehouse, Jayden fights Scott and kicks his butt. Try to help Scott from falling to his death but alas he tries to fight again. Ethan goes outside and gets shot by the police, Shaun and his mother visit Ethan's grave while Madison watches from a distance. Jayden becomes famous, Madison writes a book titled "Heavy Rain". Scott is identified as the killer, Blake and his boss get suspended. The end, that's my quick version of my ending.

Anyways I absolutely loved the game, in fact I'm playing it all over again. I'm just surprised how much emotional impact this game has on you. You feel and care for the characters by the end. Amazing amazing game!

I also flubbed the fight between Shelby and Jayden, so Jayden got the augers and Shelby got the bullet in the face from Lauren. Ethan, Madison, and Shawn all moved into Lucas's apartment from Indigo Prophecy, which I thought was funny.

I was convinced from very early on that the Origami Killer was going to wind up being Ethan's psychiatrist, as that seemed to made the most sense given Ethan's blackouts and the psychiatrist's weird brain-scanning tech. Between that and ARI, I figured this was just going a bit down the sci-fi path like the previous game. What a sweet surprise when it wound up being Shelby -- awesome. Now I want to replay the typewriter store scene and really pay attention when the shopkeeper dies, as I don't remember exactly how that played out as Shelby.

This was a great experience, and I'll definitely be playing through a lot more scenarios and probably going for the platinum. Bravo, Quantic Dream.

So for my ending Jayden wound up bleeding out of eyes and nose and dying. Kind of sucks that it doesn't let you control that last dose of tripto.

I have to say, color me disappointed with this game. Towards the end I just found all the button pushes boring and annoying. I appreciate the progresive storytelling aspects but found the game portion itself to be extremely boring.

I don't really see what the critics are saying is so revolutionary about this game? The gameplay just became pure boring tedium. And as my wife said, it's like a bad, slow movie.

Why was Ethan blacking out? Why was he running to that street? Why did he always have oragami in his hands when he woke up?

I would suggest this as a pure rental. I personally don't see much replay value here.

I kind of figured that out when Ethan randomly reappeared at the end of the game. It still doesn't explain anything. Why doesn't the poison kill you? If it didn't kill me, why did Ethan not still show up for the final boss fight? Did he just decide to give up and hope things work out for the best? Doesn't sound like the Ethan they built up as a man hell bent on saving his son through the rest of the game.

It sounds to me like Ethan failed in finding his kid. I didn't have to put an address into the GPS because I completed all the trials. Since you put the wrong address in, it was up to Jayden and Madison to save Shawn.

Madison has the chance to call Jayden or Ethan after the fire in Shelby's apartment to tell them where to go - had you called Ethan, and Jayden figured out the warehouse from the clues, then they all would have wound up there.

I finished the game yesterday. Poor Jayden bled out in his office, though. Whoops.

Ethan saved his son after Madison called him (after cutting off his finger, and killing the dealer, he opted not to drink poison and die, thanks). He did get shot in the gut, though, by Shelby at the warehouse.

Shelby chased Madison around, I missed a jump on some containers and she appeared to break her ankle. She was still a better climber than big Scotty Shelby. Ethan, apparently, can still climb with a quickness since he was able to save Madison from Scott by shooting him a couple of times. Shelby then honored the Olympics with a dive into the water below.

Madison and Ethan lived happily ever after with Shawn in a new apartment. Lauren spits on Scott's grave. Blake sees Jayden in the ARI glasses.

It's interesting reading the game that some other people played.

I got the "four heroes" ending, where all four characters are alive at the end. Jayden beats Shelby on the conveyor belt, but I never had a chance to save him. It may be because he got a lick on me and knocked me on to my stomach, but he went reeling backwards into the shredder as I struggled to stay on.

Madison gets by the cops and meets Ethan inside after he did CPR on Shaun.

I didn't shoot the drug dealer, and I drank the poison. I was able to pick the right location with Ethan since listening to the phone in your car (before choosing your destination) lets you hear a ship horn and water. I picked the one location with water beside it (at that point, only three options were available).

I must say, I kind of figured it was Shelby fairly early on. When Manfred died, and you get the flashback sequence with Shelby as a kid, the kid clearly has asthma as he's running around the construction site. I assumed it was him for the rest of the story, and it turned out I was right.

Amazing game though, I really enjoyed it. Hassan's face at the convenience store was ridiculously real looking.

I got the "Four Heroes" trophy on my ending. Lauren died, and as far as Madison and the crazy doctor, even if you refuse to drink, he ends up hitting you over the head with a baseball bat and you get tied up anyway.

I really enjoyed the game but I think I'm going to "strike while the iron is hot" and make use of the Gamestop extra 50% trade in value and put the $40 towards Battlefield BC tomorrow.

Now lets just hope they get the issues cleared up by then.

I went back and replayed that scene...got hit in the head with the baseball bat and it all goes down the same way in the basement. I also discovered that even if you don't hit a button when you have the drill in your hand, Madison still shoves it into his chest and kills him, she just doesn't do it for as long a time. I didn't try and lose the fight earlier, so I'm not sure if he could've killed her or not when they're running around and fighting before she gets knocked out on the table before killing him.
