First off, I enjoyed this game immensely, and would pay another $65 right now to play a game of similar fashion. Here's hoping it's successful so we see some more games like this.
I have to say I made quite a few mistakes throughout the game, but took more of a instinctive approach to playing it. I didn't listen to too many thoughts in the characters heads, and really wanted to see how it played out with the way I reacted.
Some of the major points where I feel I could have done something different:
1) When Jayden and Blake were in the Jesus worshipper's apartment, I managed to talk him into putting the gun down, but as Blake was about to cuff him a sudden movement and an R1 prompt had me a little trigger happy and I killed him. I was actually on edge waiting to find out what was going to happen to Jayden, but was left a little disappointed that this didn't have more consequences other then a brief discussion with Blake in the next Jayden scene.
2) In the third trial, given the option to shoot the drug dealer or put my gun away, I decided to shoot (hell, the prick was coming at me with a shotty - he would have killed me if he didn't run out of bullets). I was quick on the trigger (have to say I loved the animation) and didn't put much thought into it. After taking the picture, I was left wondering if there was a way I could have faked his death, but at that point, I had already cut my finger off, so I wasn't stopping there. I thought this would have had an impact on the ending, but didn't seem to.
3) After Shelby got the knots untied in the car at the bottom of the river, I smashed the window and got out of there without Lauren. It all happened so quick that I forgot to untie her knots. I really wish I could have gone back and done this, as after seeing the ending, I'm extremely curious as to what would have happened to Lauren.
Endings:
Well, I screwed up pretty bad during my first playthrough of the ending (I went back and played the last scene again), and here is how it went:
Madison error - When Madison shows up on scene and manages to escape the grasp of the cop, I ran over to the bike and didn't realize I needed to hold down R2, so ended up hitting it twice, only to be cuffed and unable to convince the cops that Ethan was innocent. This lead to Ethan opening up the doors to the warehouse after saving his son, only to find Blake giving the order to open fire. Ethan dies, and it leads to a scene where Madison is looking on as Shawn and the mother are at Ethan's grave. Madison later goes on to publishing a book on the Origami Killer.
Jayden somewhat error - In the fight with Shelby, when given the option to save Shelby, I hit the button but it didn't seem to register. I was too late in hitting it again, and Shelby dies in the shredder. The newscast never identifies Shelby as the Origami killer, and I'm not sure what lead to this consequence (I think it may have to do with Ethan dying). Jayden goes on a talk show, kicks his drug habit, but Ari ends up getting the best of him as 3 virtual tanks invade his desk even after he takes the glasses off. I'm assuming this was a consequence of using Ari too much. The only pan of Shelby is his grave.
Now after messing up the Madison bit, I noticed I could play the last chapter again based on what I had done up to that point - so I managed to get on the bike, escaping the cops, and entering the warehouse to warn Ethan. I saved Shelby, only for him to try to fight me again, and end up backing him into the shredder for a 2nd time. Ethan, Shawn, and Madison emerge from the warehouse unharmed, and the ending pans the origami killer being identified as Shelby, and Madison and Ethan getting an apartment together with a happy Shawn with them. I'm assuming this could have played out differently had I decided not to get my groove on with Madison. Jayden still goes the same route with this ending, and only a pan to Shelby's grave as well.
I'm thinking I could have got out of the Jayden ending had he not used Ari too much to find out Shelby wss the killer, and instead let Madison inform him when she had the option to call him or Ethan. I think Ethan could have still got to Shawn had he decided not to go through the trials if I allowed Madison to call Ethan.
I have to say I really enjoyed the game, had a Hollywood production style and story, and wasn't really ever distracted the voice acting.
Anyone watch the casting call in the extras with the girl playing Lauren? That was pretty cool.
Oh, and I missed out on the Madison shower scene, as I was too busy making a cup of joe. Damn virtual boobies.
