Wrong. I live in Brazil and only have interest in applications related to SpursEngine. For you have an idea, the FIRECODER Blu here in Brazil will cost the equivalent of US$ 3923.28 (R$9000) in official authorized dealer...

Thomson FIRECODER Blu (SpursEngine) Pronews japanese review

AVCHD 1080/60i from Panasonic AG-HMC155 (AG-HMC150) in PH Mode (average 21 Mbps/Max 24Mbps).

FIRECODER Blu AVCHD > MPEG2.

Also a test with Canopus HQ codec.

Panasonic AG-HMC155:
http://www.system5.jp/english/

is the U.S. Panasonic AG-HMC150:

http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp...odel=AG-HMC150

The PC used in the review: Intel Core2Duo E8400 3.00Ghz 2Gb RAM Windows XP SP2.

AVCHD original files and converted MPEG2 and AVI files available for limited time.

BMP captures (1920x1080) also available.

With SpursEngine/ Quad Core HD Processor helping the PC's processor, + free processing capacity for use in video editing.

During FIRECODER Blu encoding, CPU usage less than 10%:

With encoding in background, +90% CPU free to other tasks.

This is actually a commentary distributed to Leadtek, and to use it, the so-called "super-resolution playback" will be available in Windows Media Player. Also, for the "AVCHD considering" has been announced.

In the event, companies like Thomson, CRI Middleware, Pegasys, Cyberlink, Morpho and Loilo.

CRI Middleware that already released a console encoder for SpursEngine this year, promises CRI SpursCoder plugin for Adobe Premiere CS3 in next year:

Pegasys: SpursEngine support in TMPGEnc XPress 4.0, TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 and TMPGEnc MovieStyle:

CyberLink: SpursEngine in PowerDirector and MagicSports:

Give it a rest already! We don't need the same freaking slide show every two seconds. We know about it and have known for quite some time.

First.

From those shots of super resolution it looks like my PC already does a better job of up sampling DVD's. Anyone who uses ffdshow already has that beat.

Second.

We can't buy it! Even if I wanted to. Right now there is no way I can get this.

Third.

Price! The thing is outlandishly expensive. I could upgrade my current PC to play BlueRay for the price of this.

If they wanted to sell it to me. They would offer it for $199 with a Blueray player.

One last thing. Tell who every pays you to shill for them that the more they do this the less we will buy their crap.

Ture but keep in mind that this is Realtime Hardware Transcoder device well if stop think about it when MPEG2 Hardware Encoder Cost that much when they frist come out 7 years ago and avg consumer quote said the very same thing so what else new.

I would never buy from Thomson Grass Valley or Canopus when the Winfast PxVC1100 cost half as much.

Some day we may see when Bluray player/wirter and price of that deivce come down in cost.

During this event, Thomson Canopus officially announced they would support this parallel processing technology with FIRECODER Blu, their PCI-Express board product powered by SpursEngine.

Applications supporting SpursEngine on the rise

Thomson Canopus had previously released their intention to make their AVCHD Converter, offered for free of charge, support SpursEngine. During this event, they further referred to more specific schedule and mentioned that the Version 3 and beyond would support FIRECODER Blu.

Pegasys, renown for their encoder software, TMPGEnc series, also released their roadmap, including TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress scheduled to support SpursEngine as of the first quarter of 2009. While the company is actively engaged in GPGPU also, they officially announced to support SpursEngine, mentioning: "we will explore evolution as multi-front-end application" (Mr. Kaname "Zakk" Saito, Global Sales Division, Pegasys). As an implementation example of multi-front-end application, he demonstrated video filtering with GPU by CUDA** and encoding with SpursEngine running simultaneously on TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress.

AVCHD File Conversion Utility v3.00 Now Available

Our popular AVCHD conversion utility has been updated and is now available as a free download from http://desktop.grassvalley.com

This utility allows you to convert AVCHD MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) content to Canopus HQ AVI, HDV and MPEG-2 program stream files. Simply install the application, and then drag and drop AVCHD .M2TS and .MTS files onto the utility's desktop shortcut, or right-click the file and choose the appropriate option.

The converter can be configured to use multiple CPU cores for encoding a single file in a queue, or parallel encoding of mutliple files in a queue with individual CPU cores.

Note: This software requires that EDIUS v3.0 or higher, or EDIUS Neo v1.0 or higher, be installed on the same system.

Features added in this release:

* Added conversion to HDV/MPEG Program Stream output files (footage size, aspect ratio, pull-down, audio format conversion supported)
* Added FIRECODER Blu support for AVCHDPRV, providing hardware-based decoding for video preview. Systems with multiple FIRECODER Blu boards are also supported

* Added source folder drag and drop support

* Added a new settings window for AVCHD2HQ (double-click the icon to open)

* The 'HQ Codec Setup' desktop shortcut icon is no longer required - the functions have been merged into the 'AVCHD converter Settings' dialog

* The default operation of double-clicking a .M2TS file has been changed to preview the AVCHD file

Toshiba Qosmio with SpursEngine built in has real time dvd upscale with SRT using "Toshiba DVD player" software.

"UPCONVERT" button in "Toshiba DVD player" software:

Portuguese (Portugal) > English

UPCONVERT button OFF in Toshiba DVD Player software?...

UPCONVERT button ON in Toshiba DVD Player software?...

Japanese > English

Using SpursEngine card in PC, depends on DVD player software with SRT implemented...

Probably in the case of real time upscale with SRT, "One-Frame Super-Resolution" is used...(and in the case of SRT upscale during transcoding, maybe a more complex method...)

I think that the capability depends on the combination of hardware (encoder/decoder) and software (for the 4 SPE´s)

Hi

Is there any chance that we could use these cards to make a "Slingbox" solution? Encode a signal from your satellite receiver (or whatever video source) and use the output from the Spursengine, to stream to the internet?

Not sure what this amounts to. How is it any different to have to own an NVidia card vs having to own a spursengine card AND a video card (unless you use MB video which is not really applicable in most cases)? Either way you need a card of some kind.

Any current output resolutions are transitory at best and will be increased in the future if not already so that is irrelevent.

Same goes for output formats, there are no inherent limitations based on the hardware.

So I see no real point in the comments. The truly important point is that in the very near future almost any modern GPU will assist in a variety of compute-intensive tasks such as encoding or physics calculations among many other tasks. Be it a SpursEngine, a RADEON chip or a Geforce chip the results will be more or less the same. However, in the case of the SpursEngine it looks like you need to pay for additional hardware that the other solutions do not require...

The problem is currently both NVIDIA and ATI GPU transcoder gave really poor quality result.

At the moment The SpursEngine looks like a better solution compare to the GPU only solution.
