Squeezebox and NAS device

1086 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  jhoov
Somebody mentioned in one of the threads that the Squeezebox

does not work with a NAS drive unless it supports Perl?

What does that mean? Are there any NAS drives that have this

feature?

I am asking this question because I do not want to have a PC on

all the time just to listen to music on my stereo system.

Thanks.

Hmm as far as i know squeezebox needs storage which can be instaled OS such as Lacie ethernet disk (which is very expensive btw) other forums are talking about Linksys NSLU2. Let me know if any solution as i am interested about this. Will soon purchase squeezebox to be paired with panasonic RX-25 receiver and tannoy, jbl, paradigm or athena speaker :)
squeezebox needs a PC to run its streaming server app (which I believe is written in Perl). That PC, in turn, can use NAS, or whatever storage you want. But the sqeezebox itself doesn't know diddly about storage - it just wants a streaming media server to talk to...
Only the now no longer Audiotron can truly work with only a NAS and no PC

The Buffalo Linkstation NAS runs linux and is able to run Slimserver. You can check out the instructions on how to do so, on the Linkstation Yahoo group.

Yes, there are people trying to get Slimserver to run on the NSLU2.

Doesn't look like too much progress yet, but I hope the wizards figure it out.
