When the Battle of Jakku DLC comes to Star Wars Battlefront on December 1 for those who pre-ordered, and December 8 for everyone else, it will also include the 40-player Turning Point mode.

As Lead Level Designer Dennis Brännvall explained, Turning Point portrays the efforts of the Rebel Alliance to defeat the Empire following the Battle of Endor:

At the edge of the map, the Empire has constructed a make-shift base as well as smaller fortifications strewn across the landscape. Following an emergency landing, the Rebels need to locate the enemy bases to attack and take control of them all.

In Turning Point, Rebels need to locate and capture one of three points under Imperial control. If the Rebels succeed with a capture, additional time will be added and new control points will be made available. Ultimately, the goal is to get through the increasingly difficult checkpoints and make your final stand in the Empire’s base.

With debris falling from the sky, and a Super Star Destroyer crashing down during the round, Turning Point will be chaotic. Concept Artist Anton Grandert adds, “There’s a David and Goliath theme to this. The epic, huge super structures of the Star Destroyers contrast against the tiny but brave Rebel soldiers fighting the Imperial forces.

DICE talked about what you’ll love with Turning Point:

A Turning Point match will often be very exciting since the outcome is never sure. There are also a lot of tactical possibilities that need to be considered. For instance: once the Rebels have started taking over a control point, it can’t be reclaimed by the Empire. Let’s say there’s only 25% left of the claim process and the Empire has managed to drive away the Rebels. This means that the Empire have to choose between defending this vulnerable point or another part of the map. The Rebels in turn need to decide where their next attack should be.

In terms of vehicles, you’ll find airspeeders and AT-STs.

Here’s the maps included with the Battle of Jakku:

Graveyard of Giants – Fight on the Graveyard of Giants in Turning Point, Supremacy, Walker Assault, and Fighter Squadron

Goazan Badalands – Experience the badlands of Goazan in Blast, Drop Zone, Droid Run, Cargo, Hero Hunt, and Heroes vs. Villains.

Going to stream a little bit of this game if anybody is interested.

I watched that for a bit. Caught you starting a control point game but I don't know what map, desert with lots of rocks and a sand crawler I think. You were breaking even until you jumped in with Boba Fett then you had a great run, no deaths after that. You even got past the Luke that charged you iirc. Good stuff and fun to watch.

Jakku free or is it behind the season pass? If I just needed to preorder the game then I will have it early. If it's buried in the pass I may wait it out.

I was thinking this morning and laughing with co-workers on how fun it would be to punk the players on Battlefront with the hero character introduction of Jar Jar Binks.

He could have 4x the hitpoints of any other hero and just run around without a weapon, throwing blue blobs (that would work like grenades).

Friendly fire should be enabled against him and there'd be a unique achievement unlocked for the one that kills him - -- - It'd be funny because I can just imagine both teams in solidarity - ignoring each other completely every time he spawns and all unifying in chasing after the most hated character in Star Wars --- (well unless you are George Lucas - http://time.com/4119022/george-lucas-revealed-favorite-star-wars-character-jar-jar-binks/)

Ok, I'm new to ALL of this.

I just bought PS4, mostly because of this game and to keep the streak alive, PS1, PS2, PS3...I was going to get one eventually, but really wanted to play this game. I'm also new to FPS on a console (I'd be pretty new to PC games as my counterstrike days are long past) and DICE style gameplay. So, while I'm not one to be easily frustrated and toss my controller, I have more fun when I'm having some success. I'm not having any.

I'm sure aiming with the right stick will get easier. I've read in this thread that using L2 to scope is not a good idea so I'm trying to limit my use of it.

I haven't earned/unlocked much at this point as I haven't been playing a ton (holiday weekend starting now though...). I've never been much of a K/D ratio player, more objective focused. I like being a damage sponge heavy weapon guy or support to enable completion of objectives.

Are there some simple tips that might make playing a bit easier for a total novice? Are there some weapons and loadouts I should look to unlock?

How does in-game chat and partnering work? Can you communicate with a partner or do you have to be in party with them? I'm still figuring out some of the differences between PS3 and PS4.

Awesome, welcome aboard. Look for me online Chairman7w, and I'll be happy to partner up with you and join you in the fun.

If you haven't played FPS's in a while as you say, that'll definitely affect you. I'm sure it will come back soon. The good thing is, with most game modes on Battlefront, you can contribute and still earn points playing the objective.

Perfect. There's no penalty, so take advantage of the wider field of view and lay-off the L2.

I'm notorious for my poor aim, and inability to win a standard 1-v-1 engagement, so most of my kills will come from shooting someone in the back. I find that sticking to the edges of the map can limit my exposure and help me stay alive longer. I definitely recommend unlocking the Jet Pack as soon as you're able, it's a great way to dee-dee the f&%k out of there if things get hairy. As far as guns, the starting DTL-19 is pretty darn effective, but seems to be bad at range, so keep the engagements close.

Impact grenades are brutal, sometimes it's best to start engagements by chucking grenades, then firing.

You have to party up outside of the game using the PS4's chat function, then jump into the game. A little clunky but works perfectly fine.

Not having Squads is probably the game's biggest let down (I can't believe it didn't get noticed and changed in testing). I sincerely hope they fix that in a patch.

Good luck man, see you on the Battlefront!
