Joekun, I know, since I have all the R2 PAL Stargate SG-1 DVDs released thus far. Way better than the R1 discs in terms of image quality. They are more expensive, to be sure, but they're also worth it IMO.

Howie, the bad news for people waiting on the R1 releases is that you will get one season per year. This is due to syndication agreements which, if I remember correctly from reading an interview with someone at MGM, require that each episode be shown twice in syndication before it can be released on DVD in the US. So you will not be getting season 3 until the fall of 2003. I'm not that patient, and when I learned that I could get them from Europe and get caught up rather quckly I started ordering them. I have everything through the first four seasons in R2, and I should have the first eight episodes in season 5 in about a week. If I waited for the US releases I would not be able to get the same discs until the fall of 2005.

Joekun,

It's pretty lame that we have to wait for eternity for SG-1 in Region one!

Jerome,

I don't blame you for buying the R2 discs. I remember how annoyed I was when I first saw how many seasons has already been released in Europe and not here.

The Sci-Fi channel will be running through all the seasons starting this fall...this should speed up the release dates!

I don't see how that works out. If syndication means reruns (like 5 nights a week as the Sci-fi channel will probably be doing) then we shouldn't even have Season 1 yet. If it means the episodes that are aired weekly on non-pay TV (channels other than Showtime) then we should already have Season 3 and be waiting on Season 4 in R1.

I have 2 problems with the R2 discs, first of all I would have to watch them on my computer monitor, and 2nd I've never experienced PAL speedup so I'm not sure if it would bother me or not.

Joekun,

The bit on the syndication requirements was a vague recollection, so my take on the specifics might be fuzzy. The gist of what I read was that syndication dictated the DVD release schedule in the US.

As for the R2 PAL discs, I have a Malata N996 (which does PAL to NTSC conversion) mated to my 50" widescreen RPTV and a HTPC that I use with my NEC XG110 CRT projector. The PAL speed up is something that I do notice from time to time, but it really doesn't bother me--YMMV.
