I have an Infocus X1 projector, and am looking at getting a STB soon. The X1 has a resolution of 800 x 450 in 16:9 mode (I dont use 4:3 mode).

As I understand it, SD resolution is 576i, HD is 576p and up(I am in Australia - not sure if US is different), these resolutions will all have to be scaled to 800 x 450.

The X1 projector has a Faroudja deinterlacer, which has got me thinking maybe I would be better off with a SD box, sending a 576i signal to the projector, which will then be converted to progressive by the Faroudja chip, rather than paying the extra for a HD unit and sending a 576p signal to the projector, I am not sure what quality deinterlacers are used in STBs but I would think the Faroudja is better quality. Are my assumptions correct or would I get better results feeding a HD signal and letting the X1 scale it back to 800 x 450?

There is currently no HD programming in my area and this might not change for a couple of years.
