I am trying to decide between getting a Panasonic tu-dst50 off ebay or getting a Samsung SIR-T150 new. Price is pretty close, so my question boils down to the following:

On the back of both STB's there is a selector for output mode, on the panny it is ALL or 1080i,480p, all will send signal through in whatever format it is broadcast and the 1081i,480p setting will send 1080i as native and convert all others to 480p. It's manual is quite clear on the choices and how it works.

The Samsung is not as clear. It has only single mode selections and there is not any real information in the manual about the settings.

I was hoping that a Samsung user could let me know about their experience on how the mode settings work.

Thanks,

The Samsung modes are...

480i

480p

720p

1080i

This is done with a selector switch on the back of the unit.

Note: The S-video and composite video ports are allways on.

However, the onscreen display only works with whatever is selected with the mode switch.

ie. If you select 480i, you will get the onscreen display on both the S-video and RGB outputs.

If you select 720p, you will get the onscreen display only on the RGB outputs.

This makes since, the s-video port can only handle 480i.
