I need some opinions and facts on what the Best enclosure type would be for 2 SI 24 mkIII would be. Single enclosure opposed? Two separate enclosures. What other types? ported or sealed? Use is 90% movie and 10% music. Buying these in the near future or any other better suggestions for the best low end. With the goal to get as low in the single digits as possible without making the whole room a subwoofer while keeping up with the volume level of titan 615lx front stage speakers. I will probably be hiring / paying someone to build this enclosure as I do not have the skills or tools to build this large of an enclosure or brace it well enough. If needed maybe I could get 3 of the 24 inch subs and build a upgraded version of the psa t18. A t24. Not sure about the benefits of tri sub enclosures. Or is it’s even feasible without crazy controllers to time everything perfectly.

Being as your priority is low single digits, I'd say a nice sized sealed enclosure. What are your size constraints? There are several build threads with this sub both ported and sealed, you should check them out. Maybe one will fit your needs.

I don’t really have any restraint on box size. I’m thinking as long as it can be moved by humans and fit through a normal sized doorway that will work. I have yet to see a SI dual setup in a single enclosure and wasn’t quite sure of the advantage or downfall or the push pull and isobaric setups if I use this subwoofer. Hopes are for 100db at 5hz and 120db+ from 15hz and up. Is that reasonable with 2 24 inch subs and 4000 watts rms total? or is that still dreaming.

I would do it as 2 singles in separate boxes just to save your back and your friends' back who have to help you move them. Also to place in different room locations to smooth out nulls and peaks.

A really big long ported box tuned to like 10 hz would work. Otherwise a really large sealed box. If doing a box (sealed or ported) I'd make it as long and tall as you can, provided the depth lets it fit through the doorway and turn and fit along whatever wall you need lol....

Alternately you could just try them open air as Infinite Baffle/Open Baffle to see how that suits you. You'd likely need to model the max wattage you could give them before problems, but I've seen them used in this method before.

I know that @popalock had a box that was in the 27cf range and was modeled to hit 126db at 16hz. Mind you that was 1 driver in a ported enclosure. So with 2 you should be Able to achieve that. Sealed in 12cf should be fairly good too. Although you may want to have 4000 watts each for sealed. I will be interested to see what you decide. I have a pair that need boxes as well and i want the 615lx as well.

there was ( and always will be-thankfully) speculation
after @hd0823 upped his Submaximus V3's to 21's-
How about a 24" driver?
why the hell not . . .

iirc, @LTD02 as designer, spec'ed the cab to be 200 ft^3

As others have written check the T/S parameters using Winsid you should be able to see works best for you. Sealed requires a smaller enclosure and more power and will go deeper, ported requires a larger enclosure and less power, ported will also be louder at its tuned frequency then sealed. A lot of this depends on your space if you have a large space by all means go ported however if its smaller go sealed your choice.

Yeah, somewhere around that size and it modeled about what you mentioned. It slammed very well. However, I also had a single 24" nearfield in a 12ft^3 box firing directly into my back. Even though the ported had something like a 12db advantage @ port tune, when the nearfield was rocking, I couldn't even tell the front sub was on...lol.

Bottom-line. I, like the OP, have a preference for the deep stuff (i.e.- all the feels)... If you want to go full ULFtard, nothing (barring maybe a rotary sub) will reward you as much as nearfield on a suspended floor / riser. Evenso, a rotary sub would give you more of that ear popping feeling vs the mechanical feeling you would get from a driver pretty much touching your seat...

No idea what you are working with from a room standpoint, but assuming you have a single row of seating, you could build a bar behind your seats and pop the 24's in...I guarantee you will be a happy camper. Doug @d_c has a few nearfield 24's (among other things). Check them out here and get his opinion. Tons of the KC Crew have experienced the nearfield 24's firsthand, so you have a lot of experience to draw on.

Whatever you decide on doing. Good luck!

The idea of a bar behind the single row of seats has my thoughts currently. I believe i have just barely enough room for that. The only issue i have with doing that is i am sure that the wife will not approve. I am also sure the neighborhood would not be happy either with 4 of the 24's on a fp20000q. But you would never have to worry about head room, just structural problems with ripping the room apart.

Total of 5 seats right now, only 1 seat I really care about. My friends get a free movie if they get half the bass it’s whatever. (Room is huge open floor plan without much null) Prefer uniform bass but only to a certain price. This bar idea has me very interested. Seems like a dual sealed sub bar has the ability to give pain 🙂 Plus the bar idea would have good waf for the future. Certainly more so than my current 5.5 net cubic ft titan 615lx front stage.

You should be able to hit those figures, or be very close to them.

If your goal is 1-10hz, go sealed.
If your goal is louder 15-30hz, go ported.

Most people don't port their 24's because the box size requirements are HUGE.
We are talking horn-sized boxes (or roughly ~50% larger than a Full Marty).
i.e: slightly larger than a fridge (not an exaggeration...)

Dual-opposed supposedly has slightly lower distortion, but it also has a total absence of floor-shake and box-rocking (which may or may-not be a problem depending on how you look at it :))

If you are only powering 2 24's, then the FP14k is a good match.
If you are powering more than 2, then the 20k is a better choice on a rack-density and shipping basis.

I'm currently building a third right now. This one is a sealed slant front cabinet for nearfield use. It should net about 11.5 ft^3. It was originally built for four SP1804 (B-52) subs. After sliding the couch up against the 24 in my living room and playing the Hulk fight scene, I had to put this in the theater as a nearfield sub.

This is a link to the SP1804 build. I'll post a build thread on the modification soon. I'm basically just cutting off the baffle and gluing on another one, then bumping the back out a bit to allow room for the motor.
