Hi all,

I would really like to add one of Stevie Ray's SACD album's to the collection.

I already have the Sky Is Falling on CD and would like to venture into one of his other albums for something different.

For those of you who have heard his SACD's, is there one that really stands out to you?

For those of you that really know his work, is there one album that is a must have?

Interesting side note: the summer of 1990 my friends and I were on summer break from college. For some reason we decided we wanted to road trip to Alpine Valley (I live in northern MN) to see a show. On a flip of a coin we decided on Aerosmith / Black Crowes over Clapton / Stevie Ray Vaughan. The show that ended up being his last.

My friend also had a pack of firecrackers go off by his head while we partied in the parking lot before the show. He has hearing problems in his left ear to this day from that incident.

Here is a list of the SRV SACDs over at sa-cd.net. I have the Sony SACD versions of Texas Flood and Couldn't Stand The Weather. Both are also available from MOFI but do not have the extra tracks that the Sony versions have. If you look around you might find the Sony versions at fair pricing. The only one I would avoid is Soul To Soul as it isn't rated very well on sa-cd.net. That is the only title of SRV's that I do not have on SACD. You could also check out the Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughan In Session SACD as it is an excellent disc.

That is too bad that you missed SRV's last concert
. I was fortunate to see SRV three times and each show was incredible.

IIRC none of the SRV SACDs are MCH, right?

shinksma

That is correct.

Pick a MoFi or Universal Japan Stereo SACD over anything else out there, with very few exceptions they are really superbly mastered.

Bob,

What about SACDs from Analogue Productions? MOFI SACDs are very good choices but SHM-SACDs are hit or miss IMO. For the cost of SHM-SACDs I feel they are not worth the cost. Why are SHM-SACDs twice the cost of MOFI SACDs? There are a number of SHM-SACDs that are regarded as not sounding that great. One SHM-SACD that I bought that was very disappointing was Steely Dan's Aja.
