I have a Barcographics 1208 (8" crts) and am about to take the plunge and get a screen. I'm down to the Stewart Lexus screenwalls or the Da-Snap. Are Stewart screens worth almost twice the cost?

Also what aspect ratio do you all find to be most versatile. I don't think I'll ever watch 4:3 material on the projector and will mainly watch dvd's or hdtv. So would 1.85 or a 16:9 aspect ratio be the better and more versatile screen.

Thanks,

Andy

I had a Da-Lite 1.3 gain screen, that was OK except for a bad case of the "sparklies". I now have a Stewart Studiotek 130 screen that is much, much better.

I prefer a 16:9 screen (1.78:1). It's the HDTV standard. 1.85:1 movies have very, very thin bars at the top and bottom (and one some DVD transfers none), and it still works OK for 2.35:1 and 4:3.

Andy, I opted for the Stewart Luxus Delux instead of the Da-snap because of the looks of the screen when installed. Mine is completely visible and the Luxus Selux adds an element of style and elegance that the others (regular Luxus as well) don't compair with. I also added the Velux option to give the finished look, and also to catch any stray light since I am using an LCD projector.

I don't have my projector yet, but the build quality of the Stewart is fisrt rate. They are also a first rate company. They have taken care of many AVS members who have done things such as touch it with a permanent marker....

The shipping contianer was also top notch. Lots of packing and strong crate/box.

I am a mechaincal designer, and just by the items I listed above, I would reccomend them. Even for the cost difference.

Keep one thing in mind when comparing these two screens...you are not comparing apples to apples. The Draper screen is a less expensive, more basic frame and the material is inferior to the Stewart. If you were to compare something along the same lines as the Stewart for frame quality and if it were possible material quality, you would find that their prices are not really that much different.

Thanks!
