StewartFilm Horizontal ScreenWall ElectriMask on 16x9 screen?

387 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  thebland
Is it possible to get the Stewart ScreenWall ElectriMask masking system on a 16x9 screen (to mast between 16x9, 1.85:1 and 2.31:1)? From the Stewart website, it appears it is only available on 4:3 screens.

Thanks for any info!

James,

Yes, you can order this screen in a 16:9 ratio with the top and bottom masking. I use this exact screen myself. Here's some pics...

Your pictures look sweet.

If you don't mind me asking, what does that electrimask system run (with the screen)?

Thanks Jeff
Jeff,

The Horizontal Screenwall Electrimask system costs ~$3,500.-$4,000. depending on the control system you choose. It's an expensive screen, but the screen is one of the most vital parts in a HT room. Afterall, it's the component that you look at the entire time you're watching a movie.

Jeff,

I have measured the widest aspect ratio that my screen can mask to. My screen is native 1.78:1 (16:9) and can mask at any variable point to 3.20:1.

Stewart can custom make virtually anything. They often make a horizontal masking system for 16:9 aspect ratio screens. Feel free to send me your specs and I can give you an idea on pricing with the different control options.

Thanks!

Thanks

How far can the horizontal mask move.

I have a 980 Ultra now but can see upgrading that to a digital projector sometime over the next couple of years.

Obviously, I would want a bigger screen.

Assumming I buy one big screen now would it be possible to extend it from 100" wide to 120 or 130 (or whatever I may upgrade to) using the electrimask system.

Thanks Jeff

It's all custom, so they can probably do exactly what you want. It sounds like you just need more length on the masking, that should be possible. You could probably use curtains or something to mask the sides while you are shooting a smaller image with the CRT. You could get a custom 4-way electrimask to mask down the screen, but that's *really* expensive. (think ~$10k) I also really like the horizontal masking system, but it is one of the most expensive part of the screen.

Kam Fung
Thanks guys.

Jason, I'll e-mail you what I'm looking at.
