Something strange happened last night with my 42 inch PX80. I turned it on and noticed quickly that the blacks were extremely dark and inky, like a CRT which is unusual. Even darker than a Kuro plasma. Something seemed off. The television has never produced those kind of blacks, but they were a little too dark obscuring some of the picture I thought. The set also seemed to take a few seconds longer recognizing my BD player through HDMI. So I turned the television off for exactly one minute and turned it back on and it was the same as it as always been, black levels were back to the sets normal range and the HDMI issue was nullified. I watched a BD lasting well over two hours and never had a problem. Seemed like some kind of fluke. Anyone have any clue as to what this could have been?

I think it is probably just an HDMI fluke. The same thing happened with my 42PZ700U several months ago when i turned on the morning news. The screen was much darker than usual and the blacks were crushed badly. I turned it off for several seconds and when i turned it back on it was back to normal and it hasn't happened since. That's the only time that's ever happened in two years. It initially scared me but the TV has been fine ever since so i'm not worried about it.

Thanks so much for the information. I was so worried. This is the first time anything's ever gone a muck with this monitor. I suppose that's what it was. I didn't notice it on cable because I just have basic cable and didn't notice a difference in the cable, come to think of it, just the DVD and BD players hooked up via HDMI. Turning it on this morning, it was fine. I've been running my BD player at 1080/24p for awhile now. Could that have something to do with it?
