Stream HD to HTPC or to PS3.. which one??

Given my current situation, i live in an apartment and building quite the HT setup lately. I built an HTPC about a year back and bought a ps3 about 6 months ago. I like them both for what they do... but given my situation They are both hooked up to my Sony 46XBR2

recently i decided to backup all my DVD's and newly arriving BD's.. so i built a Linux box which will house my hard drives.. yadda yadda

anyways back to my original question. being both HTPC and PS3 are hooked up to the same tv, and im reading that both systems are capable of streaming HD to my TV... which one should i use?

MY HTPC is as follows..

EVGA 680i mobo with 4 gigs of corsair XMS2 ddr2 800

Intel E6600 2.4Ghz

Evga 8800GTS 640MB

Vista home premium 32bit (i know 4 gigs with 32 bit but whatever)

im not much of a software guy so all these applications and OS's and add-ons are really alot to handle sometimes..

both systems are wired ethernet also..

I realize that once i get my house in less than a year i plan on moving the ps3 and HTPC to seperate rooms as they are becoming basically the same things function wise.

thanks for any help!

I personally would use the HTPC to play the HD content if it's powerful enough. It's much easier to do that on the computer rather than the PS3 since you won't have to convert the files to a usable format for the HTPC.

As for quality, I don't think there'd be much of a difference so it the files are already in a format that the ps3 can play, then it's just a matter of you deciding which you prefer the controls/software on.

Just my $.02

yeah i was thinking the HTPC would be the option of choice, but with the ps3 getting updated codecs, i thought maybe the ps3 might be the easier route.

im going to mess around with both to see what i prefer, but with my roms i'll end up using my HTPC so that migth sway my entire decision to stream the HD content too. plus with the new skins on media portal catching my eye..
