Hello,

This will probably be the shuttle's last night launch, and my one chance to experience/record a shuttle launch. I have a Sony HDR-TG1 camcorder and a tripod.

Can you folks suggest some settings for the camcorder? Will the "fireworks" mode work? Should I set the camcorder for manual focus/wide angle and just pan the tripod as the shuttle ascents?

Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Richard

I think you have to decide are you there to experience it, or video it? For me, although I love my video work (I drive hours just to go video shoot owner's home theaters), at the launch I think I would be tempted to go a bit more "auto", versus trying to maintain the manual control.

The biggest challenge (I'm speculating) will be the intense light of the burn, against the dark of the sky. If you're going on auto, the fireworks mode is probably just fine. I think you have it right, manual focus (on infinity), zoom in, and follow the shuttle as it flies.

Good luck!
