Hi all,

apologies for what is probably a ridiculous question. I have a PS3 so am looking into an HDMI 1.1 receiver to enjoy 5.1 LPCM (currently leaning towards the Onkyo 604).

I wondered, if I use the PS3 to watch a BD movie in 5.1 PCM and then turn on my dvd player (connected via optical) to watch a SD dvd, will the AVR automatically detect and output it at dd/dts etc?

cheers

The AVR will process whatever signal it gets from the currently selected source. So, if your player is sending DD, it will recognize and process it. If the player is sending LPCM, it will do that too. So, the source is what determines what gets sent, not the AVR. In fact, if you want the AVR to process DD and DTS, you can set the PS3 HDMI to output bitstream. That way, DD and DTS will get processed by the AVR and LPCM will still be sent by PS3 to the AVR if you choose that sound track from the disk on the PS3.
