I am building a home theater room, and have 2, 12" Kenwood car subs that I want to hook up. I have a Reckhorn sub amp on order, and havn't decided on a main receiver yet, possibly the Onkyo TX SR606, 7.1. Will this work? If I want to add butt-kickers, will I need another sub amp?

Yeah, you'll need something to power those shakers.

So I can hook up my old receiver (Sony, c. 2002), and dedicate it to, say 2 buttshakers? Do I need a pre-amp, or how do I direct the power?

You can split the LFE as it leaves the AVR, then run the signal (coax) into an FMOD (50 Hz) to the phono input on the old AVR that you are using for butt kicker amp. Use speaker terminals to run to the butt kickers. I like to install another splitter on the coax just before the AVR (butt kicker amp) so that I am using both phono inputs.

Another way of doing this is to use the output on the sub. Plug coax into output on sub. Connect coax to an FMOD (50 Hz) then install splitter. Connect splitter to both right and left phono inputs on the old AVR. Run speaker wire from right and left main speaker terminals on old AVR to butt kickers.
