sub-amp for aura pro shutting down?

403 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  bassbone57
hi..i bought a subwoofer amp from mcm electronics to power my 3 aura pros wired in series..(12ohms). They were the 75w models i believe.

i noticed that on movies that are have continuous bass...it shuts itself off..(polar express, final fantasy 7 - advent children). i touch the heatsinks and its very hot....

im able to bring it back up after a few minutes (off-on) after it has cooled down...

i have it in a small enclosure just big enough for it to fit in...the back of enclosure is a peg-hole board so there is lots of holes. would a small fans cure this? its kind of frustrating during prolonged and heavy bass scenes that it would quit on me..

The amp probably needs room to the top and sides to vent properly. You should never put an amp in a place where it can't breath. That's just asking for trouble as heat is the hardest thing on electronics. A fan would only work if it had room around the amp to circulate the air.
