sub recommend

I had initially looked at budget subs to fill my large, unfinished basement approx 10000 cubic ft. Started out with the Dayton sub 1200/1500. With the current svs sale I'm considering the pb12nsb. How does this sub compare to Hsu vtf4, rhythmic lvr12? Also, any other subs I should be looking at? I thought about DIY, but with the lack of knowledge at this point, probably sticking with the above choices. I know 1 sub won't make due but I'm just starting out, so only 1 at the moment.

What is your budget? Do you want a reference capable sub system or something that will just fill the void?
10k cubic feet, I would say whatever sub you buy, place it near field. Near-field is when you put the sub real close to the listening position, like right next to the seat. I think the side-firing woofer on the Hsu vtf3 makes it perfect for near-field placement, but the SVS PB12 NSD is on sale for a great price at the moment. If you place the sub anywhere else, you may not even be able to hear it at all.
Eventually I plan to finish a portion of the basement for my HT which would approximately be 3000 cubic ft. At the moment I'm just wanting something to fill the void. Would I be better with 2 budget sub or something cheaper compared to the svs pn12nsd since my area is soo big? I did notice that the svs pb12nsd was at a great price. Budget is $600, twice what I started with. It's not good being o forums then you see all the nice things and want it too.

If your budget is $600, I would get the PB12-NSD.  This is pretty close to the best ID sub you will find at the price for your needs.  However, the real benefit is that you will be able to upgrade to a better sub with SVS within a years time.  So you could jump up to say, dual PB2000's by upgrading your PB12 and purchasing a second PB2000.

So, you will have some bass for now, and be able to upgrade to something more ideal when you can.

However, if you can swing $800, the PSA XV15 has the most output of any ID sub until you exceed $1k.

That's a great suggestion. Do we pay shipping if we upgrade? How much better is the pb2000 compare to pb12nsd?

It has a slightly lower tune(17Hz vs 18Hz), and reportedly has about 2.5 dB higher output 25 Hz and up.  Yes you pay shipping for upgrading.  However, if you feel like this is a good option, the last thing I suggest would be, consider which two subs you would most like to have in the end, and start with one of them, or one from which you can upgrade to.

For example, do your own research on the PB2000 and the PSAXV15, or HSU VTF3.4

These are all solid competitors in their price range.  If you want the highest output, consider the XV15.  If you want the lowest distortion in exchange for a bit less output, go SVS.  If you want the best adjustability, go HSU.  Just as an example of some things to consider.

That is my advice...start with the end in mind.

At the moment I'm planning to keep whichever sub I buy for sometime. That may change if I keep on this forum... lol. I've been doing a lot of research on the different subs but feel like I keep raising the budget, which I prefer not to anymore. Really sticking with max $600 which is pushing it. Since the room is so big at the moment, wonder if 2 budget subs would be better until I close up the room. I do have a very old htib upstairs in family room where I can move equipment to later. I felt like starting there but TV is corner and after reading corner setups are not recommended. Between svs pb12bsd and Hsu vtf2, which?
10,000 feet? That is a huge room, you'd probably need to spend a few thousand dollars in a room of that size, probably dual subs at the minimum

What are dimensions?

I realize it's a large area but as stated will eventual close an area to 3000 cubic ft. Just need something to fill the void.50x26x9. I don't expect to have all the thrill but want something for occasion movies and music.

Corner loading is usually considered one of the optimal placement options.  It will often give you the greatest room gain.

If you do get the PB12, the subwoofer crawl will be very important to give you the best bass in that big room.  Put the sub on the couch or chair where you will be sitting play some bass heavy music, then crawl around until you hear the best bass(along walls, corners, etc).  Put the sub in the location where you get the best bass.
I pulled the trigger and ordered the SVS PB12-NSD. I figured there is no harm in getting the sub as there is an audition period with free return shipping. Although, I'm pretty sure I will l wont be returning it unless something drastically happens. Coming from a old Sony 50w "subwoofer" this will be great. Does this sub sound "boomy?"

I only have one right corner where my HT is currently set up, so that is most likely where it's going with corner loading unless when doing the subwoofer crawl, I can manage to find a better position

I need to get away from the forums as it's costing too much money...lol
