I recently calibrated my speaker system with a RadioShack SPL meter, but was wondering if I am also supposed to match the sound level of the sub to that of the speakers.

When I bring the sub down to the same level as the speakers, it doesn't seem to have enough impact in music and movies. Is the sub supposed to be set a bit higher?

Also, what do you think would be more accurate for setting the levels... the test tones from my receiver (H/K AVR 230), or those from DVE?

I am all for calibration - it's important to make sure you get the best out of your components - however, temper that with "what do you like?".

What would you like better sitting there watching a movie or listening to some music:

- knowing that your system is perfectly calabrated, but not liking the sound (lack of bass or whatever)

- calibrating your system to your tastes and sitting back and thinking wow

I think you know your answer...forget what your supposed to do and do what you like (calibrate it and then modify to your tastes).
