sub-woofer cables

530 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  KidHorn
I have two powered subs and I ran two monster coaxial cables with coaxial "Y" wires to connect them at the receiver and at the sub woofer is this bad, do they need to be RCA cables or will the coaxial cables be better for the sub woofer or do i need to get RCA cables for this hook up for these sub woofer's..

You should be fine so long as they are terminated correctly. Coaxial (RG59/6) are shielded so will provide better resistance to interference compared to normal RCAs.

RCA refers to the connector, coaxial is the cable construction. There's no such thing as an RCA cable, there are just cables that use RCA connectors.
I have one 15" powered Sub and one 10 inch powered sub and on the back of the subs they have inputs that are marked Red and White. Out of my Harmon Kardon 3600 I connected a 1 Male and two female "Y" connection's. I plugged the male into the purple sub woofer on the HK and connected the Coaxial cable which is usually marked with an orange connected port. But I ran two Coaxial cables from each "Y" connector from the receiver. and at each sub I hooked up the coaxial wire from to a 1 female and two male connectors and plugged them into the two red and white audio connector;s on the back of the powered sub on the 10" and the 15". Will this be better than the RCA cables , the same or worse. The run from the sub connections is about 5 feet? Do I need to get RCA or will the coaxial's work fine.

So will I be OK using Coaxial Cable's rather than using the regular White and red RCA cables, I refer RCA cable as the Red, White, and Yellow the ones to connect an older gaming device or connecting a VCR and some DVD's.

You should be using coaxial cables with RCA connectors. This is what 99% of subwoofer cables are.
