Subs downfiring on seated position

A friend of mine asked if he could do an IB that downfired on the listening position. I replied it wasn't a good idea but I could not answer why. Could anybody help out on this please.

dyna-moe, you mean like a plenum in the ceiling above the listening position? Don't see why not. Also don't see why that position offers any unique benefits.

DMF no I mean the no plenum just raw drivers pointing down. I understand they are making the Firefly movie that should be out soon. I watched the whole series a few months back on DVD and they were talking about it on the DVD.
