We use subtitles when they are in the black bars (of course) of scope films.

However, in setting the subtitle positioning, what happens to the subtitle positioning if the subtitles in another film are fully within the picture of a scope film (not in the black bars)? Will the subtitles still be raised (more towards the center of the screen) or does the subtitle setting compensate for this and not move subtitles that are already inside of the scope picture frame (not in the black bars)? Does the subtitle positioning need to be reset each time if subtitles are in a different portion frame?

Also, I just read that subtitles can be moved on the fly while playing a Blu Ray disc (correct?). This is done by holding the SUBTITLE button?

Thanks!

I just watched the first portion of 'Coco Before Chanel' last night and it has subtitles in the main picture frame and black bars. I couldn't get the subtitles right while using the SUBTITLE SHIFT feature in the SET UP menu (didn't realize the disc must be stopped for this to kick in). Also, read this in the main thread (correct)?

Thanks!

Another potential gotcha: the shift is purely up and down, not squeezed toward the center. Meaning that subtitles high on the screen may be shifted off the top. This is pretty common on TV shows where they place the subtitles high to miss the opening credit lines.

I can live with that... I'm just thrilled to have any subtitle movement feature.

I watched something like that recently. I think it was in the movie House Of Flying Daggers.

There were subtitles at the top AND at the bottom of the screen.

Using the shift function to move the bottom subs up, also then moved the upper subs up as well.

I'm amazed that they added it and that it works so well. DVD, BR with and without java, both the BDP-83 and the BDP-80: everything works. Must have been some serious magic involved.

One last thing... Is there an RS-232 command for MOVING SUBTITLES? Holding Sthe RS-232 SUBTITLE button with in RS-232 does not work.

Let's hope so...but (from OPPO):

Jeff,

This is something that we are investigating, but we do not know if we can add the ability to send long RS232 command or make the Subtitle Shift a discrete command.

Saw a post RE: 2012.

Apparently there are subtitles that the Oppo can't fix. I'm going to test this out tonight.

Not sure if there are some subtitles in the English track or if the poster was watching an alternative soundtrack.
