Can anyone help out with a list of good material to evaluate a subwoofer?

I will be auditioning a MartinLogan Depth this weekend.

I have been lurking here for a while and value your opinions.

Take along Toy Story 2 DVD. The first 2-3 minutes are subwoofer busting material.

Haunting DVD. I remember there is one passage on this DVD, I think it is when someone, maybe Katherine Zeta Jones rolls off bed (or someone else), there is some DEEP bass. This passage will bottom out most low end subs. Only the truly great ones will live through it unscathed.

Not sure what % is HT or music, I enjoy both.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Sony DVP-NS900V so any SACD recommendation would be great also.

Get ahold of "Flim and the BBs: Tricycle" CD, it's now available on SACD if you choose. This has some fantastic dynamic range and solid bass in almost every track. Track 3 (Lunch Hour Wedding March) has some crisp & deep analog synth as the bassline, and really rocks on a nice pair of speakers with a properly crossed-over subwoofer. The CD itself is considered reference quality because of the way it was originally recorded (DDD).

Thanks guys for all your input.

I’m having way too much fun now. :D

I don't have any experience with subs, but this ML Depth seems very nice.

Man….. I’ve got it bad now.

My Wife will pay good money for a cure.

Might be cheaper to find a movie she likes and see if that does the trick.

Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring, opening battle scene (make certain to listen through to the ring hitting the ground).
