I was given a Sony subwoofer (SS-WSX1). This sub is normally part of a 2.1 "Dream System" (DAV-X1), which I do not have, I only have the sub.

The sub has a special input on the back (similar to DVI) that would normally go into the dream system with the supplied cable. I was hoping to use this sub in the bedroom to add some bass to my 2 channel system.

Is there any adapter on the market for these unique sony inputs or is there any other way that I could hook it up to a regular receiver?

It's a brand new, nice looking sub with two 6.5" woofers one down and one front firing. i did'nt pay anything for it but it still seems like a shame to just toss it because of Sony's weird connection wire.

Can anyone help?, please

I don't know of this connection, but I would probably drop a note to Sony customer service. I'd bet that in those pins there are 2 used for the signal (they should have a wiring diagram). Then you just have to get the proper plug and make a cable (if it is a propriatary cable, you might be able to order the cable alone from Sony and splice into it.

A lot of times HTIB subs tend to be passive and powered by the receiver that's included. Does this sub have a separate amp? Is it just the one cable or do you have to plug it into AC as well?

The cable may be sending power plus low level signal or just the amplified signal. Long story short, you most likely can't use this.

Just don't pay the price of a new sub for only the cable!

Hi, I have a similar proprietary wire connection question. We are using the DAV X1 as a sound system in a small room and need to extend the front left and right speaker wires. Unfortunatley, the room was pre wired with conventional speaker wire (monster) and Sony uses a proprietary wire set up with this system. Rather than buy a new system, I am looking to see if there is a way to splice the Sony wire with the existing conventional speaker wire. Sony has not been helpful in explaining the wire diagram. When we cut the Sony wires, we noticed the front left and right channels each have 4 different colored wires (everything from pink to brown!). Just wondering if anyone out there has ever attempted this before and could provide some guidance.

Thanks
