I want to know what you guys would think would be best to pair up with these speakers. I'll be running them off of an Audioengine D1.

I listen to a wide variety of music and you might call me a basshead (I EQ bass up with DT770 pros). I listen to rap, metal, rock, and much more.

I can get Klipsch products very cheaply, (A KW-100 would be about $100) but if there is a better option then I'd love to hear it. I would need a way to eliminate bass crossover for the speakers too. I could spend $150+ but the cheaper the better. But I will not sacrifice on quality. I have Promedia 2.1's and I want to improve on the bass depth and clarity as well as volume from those.

Thanks in advance.

You will need a sub with both a line in and line out connection if you want to control the bass on the A5s. I'm assuming you want to high pass the bass on the A5's? If so you will have to run the audio source to the line in of the sub, then the sub output to the speakers, and set the crossover dial on the sub. How large is your room and will this be a near field setup?

Thanks for the response. I would like to control the bass with the A5's but it is not necessary. If by a high pass you mean I would run it through the sub to remove crossover, then yes. The room is rather large but has hard flooring and thick plaster walls. I'd guess it's abouit 30x20 in the large section, with another 15x8' section off of one side.

What is the most you can spend? There are decent subs out there that are under $300 but none will have the ability to high pass the A5+'s. I own the A5s and I find that they run out of steam before my sub (an Emotive Ultra 10) does with bass heavy music. I suspect they would have more headroom if they were high passed.

A sub like this would work best in your situation: SVS PB-1000

The Premier Acoustics PA-150 may work as well:

Wow. I guess I should give a price. I can get a Klipsch KW-100 for $150ish, and I'd like to stay below $200

Well that is a ton of subwoofers, but which one is the best for the price?

I would go with the Dayton Sub-1500 or if you are willing to go dual, the a pair of Sub-1200s would be even better. Keep in mind you won't be able to controll the bass extension of the A5s with these but these are good budget subs overall.
