I have a Yamaha RX-v2500 Receiver, PMC DB1's for L/R, PMC DB1SM Center and generic speakers in ceiling for rear surround, I think they are Radio Shack 40 watts.


My present older carryover subwoofer is a Sony SA-WM40. According to the specs this should deliver 20-200HZ .8% THD 120 watts.


Room is my living room which is about 20x20.


Where would the best bang for the buck be for me to upgrade my sound?


New rear surrounds? Like a dipole or whatever?

Do I need a new subwoofer? Recommendations?

Well, what is your budget and what are you trying to achieve? That Sony sub, while good for the $, very likely will not extend to 20hz in room, not with that level of power and that small enclosure. If it were me, depending on budget, I might prioritize upgrades this way:


1) Sub and an EQ to tame room peaks

2) Room treatments

3) Surrounds that better match the front/center (doesn't have to be an exact match, but a pair of PMC surrounds for example)
