In the process of building out a 3.1 System that I may eventually build out to 5.1 System. Anyway, equipment that I've ordered so far includes Onkyo 609 AMP and Martin Logan Motion 10 speakers for the Front. In addition, I've ordered the Chrysalis by Velodyne sub for $150 from Costco. I'd appreciate any opinions on this sub? Will this be a nice sub for a basic sound system? Never really heard of this Company, but since their primary focus is on building out subs assume the quality will be good for $150. Thanks for your help.

Based on the information below, I would say that this 10 inch ported sub should be decent for music but not as good for home theater. I say that because the sub is rated down 3db at 32Hz.

I would have recommended you get the Energy S10.3 from Newegg when it is on sale for $199.

Crap, another item to return to Costco. Just found out that the Velodyne is not magnetically shielded, which I stronly prefer (game systems, laptops, etc.). I'll look into the Energy S10.3 -- is that magnetically shielded? Does anyone else have any other suggestion? $200 is definitely my limit for a sub. Thanks.

From the Velodyne Impact series manual (and from what I gather the Starfires are essentially rebadged Impacts, so...):

"Your Velodyne Impact subwoofer is NOT magnetically shielded. Should you find it necessary to use it with an older CRT monitor or TV, keep it at least two feet from the monitor. Experiment for correct distance by minimizing distortion of the picture and colors."

I don't think you'd run into any issues unless you're terribly cramped for space. You can always get a 25 foot sub cable from Monoprice and place it next to the couch.

If you're going to roll with the Energy, Check slickdeals. They've posted a $10 off $100 code for Newegg.
