I have had a the same velodyne CHT 10 since living in the college dorms in 2002. My wife is not a huge fan of it and we just finished a tv room in our basement where receiver and HTPC PC is in a room behind the couch. What are people's opinions if I put the sub in that room? My fronts are polk audio owm 5 with the rears being polk owm 3 so I definitely could use the bass she just is not a fan of a big sub in the room. If I could put in in the room behind the couch and it could still be effective that would be ideal.

How wide is your room?

He doesn't want to put the sub behind the couch. He wants to put it *in another room* that's located on the other side of the wall that's behind the couch. It's hard to take this question seriously--I feel like we're being pranked--but taking it at face value, OP, no, just because bass travels does not mean you can locate your sub in a different room. Yes, you'll still feel some low frequency vibration from it, but that's it. Just like speakers and your TV or projector, you'll want the sub in your room with you. The good news is, that room looks like it has a number of potential spots for a modest-sized sub. It's a dedicated basement media room, surely you can persuade the wife on this one?

Doh! I didn't see the word "room" until you pointed it out, just fixated on "behind the couch". Serves me right for skimming.
