Hi there,

I just got a new subwoofer, KLH ASW12-200B. It was bought used and I'm having trouble getting it to output enough sound. For example if I play the test tone I can barely hear it if I put my ear to the woofer. Now if I put the volume up on my receiver, Sony STR DH520, it sounds OK but at lower volumes I don't notice it. All of this is with the gain on the subwoofer at maximum, the receiver subwoofer level at max and the bass and treble settings at max. I have to turn the receiver up to 30 on the volume dial to really feel and notice the sub, but I have no idea how many dB that is...

I've tried every connection except for the speaker wire terminals, all sounds the same, I've also tried using a Y-splitter and it didn't change anything. The speakers are set to small and the subwoofer is enabled in my receiver.

I had been using a small 6,5" sony sub before and I could hear it and feel the bass from it with out having to crank everything to the highest settings.

Also here is a photo of the living room layout if that helps at all and of the back of the subwoofer.

All help is appreciated

It may be as simple as where you have the crossover set (the frequency knob). Is it set where the photo shows, or do you have it maxed also. You will want that maxed and use the crossover in the receiver.

Well i screwed the plate of and didn't see anything wrong with the soldering. But I tried connecting it through the high level inputs and thought I heard the bass better, could that really be or am I imagining things?

I just looked at the caps on the control boards and I think it has a few bad ones. The subwoofer plays though so it is at least getting some voltage. If you could look at the pictures and maybe help me figure out which one I should replace that would be greatly appreciated.
