I just purchased a Hitachi 43" (43UWX10B) for a downstairs set-up. This is a tabletop(I got the matching stand for $199.) 16 x 9 hdtv. Looks real nice w/great color and detail. It was purchased from Sears for $2099.
I have the 43"FDX01B It is a great RPTV for DVD's and clean prictures but SD from the look blochie (tech. term). Things like smoke or shadows do not look real. I think it is because of the line doubler, and when a there is bad picture this unit seems to make it look worse. But on the contrary a good picture will look great. It may just be that way with all RPTV;s but some that I have seen don't have this problem.
My favorite in this price range is the discontinued Panny 56 inch ...95. It can be had for 1999 and does native 720p for ABC. I have one and the picture is gorgous. I also like its sdtv reception. Mixed with the Dish 6000's "partial Zoom" mode the sdtv reception is great for 16x9 and of couse the HD and DVD pictures are prestine.
