I'm interested in getting some referrals for online/mailorder dealers in mid-fi A/V receivers. I'm thinking Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha... Private e-mail response is fine if you don't want to plug on this forum. Thanks..

If you're looking for best price, look at www.pricescan.com - then use something like www.bizrate.com (there are other's but I don't remember them at the moment) to see if they're reputable.

You aren't visiting showrooms, then buying online, are you? Nah, you have better taste than that...

It's been my experience that Sound City out of New Jersey www.soundcity.com is a great company to deal with. They are very big, so lots of selection, and are authorized to sell everything they have. I bought a Harmon receiver from them 3 years ago and recently purchased a B&K receiver from them. Don't pay attention to any prices you see online, as they will always deal and match most competitor prices. Just bought a refurb B&K avr 202 (see article in Secrets of Home Theater equip review in this forum) for $1500 (list 2800) best of all, I called B&K and not only will they honor the warranty if sold by Sound City, but it's 5 years parts and labor! They also sell Onkyo, NAD, Pioneer elite etc. Might want to check 'em out.

Wherever you end up buying, it will be easier to obtain service if your receipt matches one of the authorized dealers from the manufacturer. (I'm not making a judgement on whether this is good or bad, necessary or not, just easier).
