Suggestions for HT sub

Hey all,

Working on a new basement HT. Size is 20’ wide x 15’ Deep x 7’ high open to rest of basement (approx. 600sqft.).

Denon 4400 Avr
Silver ticket in wall/ceiling speakers 7.?.4

50% sports fibre
25% gaming
25% movies

Need recommendations for subwoofers. Budget is 1.5k Canadian.

All recommendations welcome. I’m thinking either;
1. Dual svs pb 1000
2. Dual monolith 10”
3. Single svs pb 2000
4. Single monolith 12”
5. Dual vft 2 mk5
6. Single vft 3 mk5

Very torn.....Help!!!

Concrete floor, 4200+ cu.ft. I'd start with the VTF-3 or Monolith 12" and double up when additional funds become available.

Thanks. Just to clarify, the HT room is partially open (blocked by a 42” high seating bar wall). There is a 5 foot wide full opening. Does your recommendation remain the same?
Yes. The biggest factor (IMO) is that you're on concrete. Buy two "lesser" subs now and you may find yourself trying to sell both in order to upgrade. Buy one more-powerful sub now and:
- if you're satisfied with its performance, you're done;
- if you feel you need more, simply add another when additional funds become available.

Post # 2? Some things never change... :p

You're correct; large space + concrete = significant subwoofer(s). The sports viewing will likely be OK, but movies and games would go lacking unless there was sufficient output and depth potential available.
Sometimes I'm PN2 but you are always the (J)man! :cool:
Ok. Being from Canada, HSU doesn’t really work for warranty. I wish it did.

So switching gears, and after some pricing research. I can swing either one monolith 12 or two pb 2000. Either of these two options can be fixed with free shipping in Canada.

A pair of PB-2000s will have plenty of output and solid sub-20Hz extension. And they come with SVS' top-notch customer support. The Monolith 12" is reportedly better but I'm not sure it's worth the $337 premium up here ($1416 for a Mono 12" vs. $1079 for a PB-2000).

Add another yes vote for dual PB 2000's.

Thanks for the replies....dual pb 2000 it is. As these are my 1st good subs, is there a setup procedure outlining sub settings? Hopefully something geared towards my Denon avr 4400?
Check out the calibration thread. There is no question you could have that the guide doesn't cover.
