I recently built a HTPC. I am projecting with a Panasonic L500U projector. I currently have a chaintech av515m installed as the sound card. I am outputting to logitech 5500 speakers. The receiver for the 5500 speakers only has one coax input and one optical input. The soundcard I now have only has optical output for SPDIF. I would like to purchase a new soundcard because I use my xbox on the projector and it only outputs sound through the Toslink connection. This means that under my current setup, I have to switch the Toslink cable from my computer and xbox depending on which one I choose at the moment.
I need a sound card that will do Dolby Digital and DTS passthrough through a coax or SPDIF minijack output. Is there any difference between the quality of sound using different soundcards if I am just using the passthrough of the soundcard? If so, what are some good soundcards with coax or SPDIF minijack that I could purchase? I would like to keep the price under a $100 if possible, but all suggestions are welcome.
