Sunday tix HD conversion

Hey all,

I currently only use Directv for the NFL Sunday Ticket in one room, Since they are starting to offer more games in HD I thought I'd upgrade to the HD dish and Receiver. How many cables will I need to the dish? I currently have two run. Thanks

I don't know, but if you're interested mainly in ST I'd wait to see if you can get one of the STBs that will be using the newer compression scheme prior to the start of next season. You don't want to buy something and then need (or even just want) to upgrade within a few months. I believe the new compression will be mainly for HD locals, but I don't know that anyone knows that for sure.
I'll still need a triple lnb dish though won't I?
I don't think there aren't many like us...I was just like you..ST only--but I changed 2 weeks ago.

**Now 1st you need to know D* will not allow you to have ST only starting with the 05-06 season--this will likely influence your decision!**

I took the plunge and dropped TWC which was providing good service, but I come out cheaper with D*. They gave me $175 credit torwards an HD box, and new dish, plus a (SD) tivo for $49, & free HD package for 6 mo. I now feel good knowing that I have a HD receiver that will be upgraded when the time comes that I got for only $125 net (picked up the receiver locally for $299 or you can get it from D* for $399--same credit either way).

Call customer retention a time or two and see what they will offer you. Look at the thread that talks about the "$99 offer," it offers useful info and the phone numbers.

In the end, part of my plan is that I have a OTA tuner now for $125. If I don't like D*, then after my 1 year to total choice commitment, I can go back to TWC, but don't have to pay for their useless digital cable just to get HD. If I like D*, I'll stick around and get the upgrade. Plus I love Tivo much more than the TWC DVR, even the HD DVR.

Just my 2 cents...

...and yes you will need the triple LNB for the HD ST, but you'll be able to get them to include that.

I did mean to state in the previous post what you may already know..that even as a ST-only subscriber we are considered existing customers and not eligilble for the new customer promotions.

LonghornXP has stated on SatelliteGuys.us that Sunday Ticket subscribers will need a new MPEG-4 receiver this year, and I'm sure more than likely a new dish.

I believe you'll need a newer dish than that.
Wow! when was D* planning to notify it's customers?

Probably when the equipment is available. They don't want to stall out current sales.
well as I read the other posts about the D* ugrade/mess I think I'll wait till the smoke clears. Thankfully, I still have a few months before it gets seriously close to football season! Thanks for the info.
