Hello everyone

I had a question about my recently purchased (USED) Sunfire Cinema Grand 5 channel amp. The amp has a very low hum to it. Not from the speakers from the unit it self. Kinda sounds like a refrigerator but not as loud. The hum is there even when on or off. Just wanted to know if this is normal or something maybe wrong. Thanks for the advice..Alfred

As far as I know there is only one repair center in use for Sunfire anymore. He is a wealth of knowledge on the products. You can have your amp sent in if you think it requires it, but it would not hurt to contact him with questions. Please post back your results if you get in touch with them. I also have a sunfire cinema grand amp I haven't used for some time that I was thinking about resurrecting.

I also email sunfire and this is what i got back:

Hello Alfred,

Under normal circumstances, the Sunfire Cinema Grand should produce a slight amount of mechanical hum that can be heard if you are within two feet of the unit and the rest of the system is silent.

If you can hear this from your listening position, then there might be something wrong.

I would try plugging the unit into a Furman power conditioner as that may clear the issue.
