Soak it in people... You are looking at the new face of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. This image was posted earlier today from Brian Dunn, Product Marketing Specialist at Capcom, over at the official Capcom BBS. From Brian's original post, this image is what the game is going to look like if you would pause the game and strip away the background. This is no mock up. This is the real deal.

I am incredibly impressed with the detail in this work. Udon was dead serious when they claimed that they were going to be able to recreate their vision of the Street Fighter universe of the comics for this game. According to Mr. Dunn, a new blog is going to be started today that is going to be centered around all of the downloadable titles being released by Capcom in the near future. Though this is just one small image, we are being promised consistent updates on the progress of the development of the four games (SSF2TR, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Talisman, and Rocketmen) announced at the Capcom Gamer's Day over the course of the next few months. Considering that Mr. Dunn was in charge of the Lost Planet blog which was regularly updated with great tidbits of developer's notes, I have no doubt that Capcom is going to deliver on their promises here.

I can't wait to see more, but until then... Oh My God.

It's claimed to be an in-game shot of Super Street Fighter HD for PS3 and Xbox 360. It says *if you would have actually read the post* that if you were to pause the game this is what your character would look like with the background stripped. Compared to old Street Fighter games this is unbelievable.

I actually wish they would have just made SF4, but I guess that would take 3x as long as it is taking to port over existing gameplay. It would be cool if they could complete the art and let us choose whatever version of SF we wanted (like the Anneversary Collection). Imagine 3rd Strike looking like that!

I agree. As an old school SF purist who grew up drooling over bengus and akiman's work and pouring hundreds of dollars into this series, I expected better in the art department. HD aside, I'm not particular impressed with the new art. It looks poorly reworked - almost amateuresque. If they leave the original sprites in upscaled I would be fine with that, but these new sprites look sloppy and unattractive. Which is quite disappointing considering that Capcom used to be known for their incredible 2D art team. That's not to say the gameplay would stink however - since their using the same engine I'm sure it will still be fun to play online.

I gotta disagree- that looks exactly like the Udon comics, which looked outstanding.

I wonder though, if the animations will be the same?

I wish there was an HD version of Third Strike.

Sweet, HD Street Fighter, I can't wait. I remember searching the house for quarters when I was 13 so I could go to the arcade and play SFII. Now I can play it in HD, who would of thunk it.

If it were up to me, I would have redrawn all of the original sprites.

These new sprites are going to make the game feel like a Street Fighter mod hosted on some flash game site.

The sprites are being redrawn frame by frame by the artists from Udon (the illustrators/artists for the Street Fighter series). Therefore, keeping the gameplay intact, hopefully they can pull it off. Plus, the size of the characters are going to be HUGE even bigger than Guilty Gear's and will run at 1080p.

I thought Udon drew all new sprites, but had to keep them within the same configuration of the old sprites so they wouldn't have to change hit boxes and frame rates. Am I wrong about this? Anyway, this looks good and it is about time. I'm sure it won't be as fluid as 3rd Strike because they are using all the original frames and not adding any new ones, but with all new backgrounds and sprites it will look like a new game. Now if they did the same thing for 3rd Strike or used 3rd Strike as a starting point for a Street Fighter 4 Ex plus @ Championship Hyper Turbo Edition HD I will be set!

I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Looks good. Street Fighter in HD? C'mon! Wonder if the new artwork extends to the backgrounds.

It does. All the backgrounds will be redone in 1080p as well. It would be cool if they ADDED stuff too. Maybe some backgrounds from the other SF games, or something.

I am so excited for this it's unbelievable. I can't wait to see screen shots.
