i am new to the world of expensive components and i am about to purchase a 50 to 60 hdtv . i don't want to be bamboozled by the sales guys as far as accesories. how much should i spend and can you reccomend a model of power supply strip with protection. do they really clean up the power too? thanks i am tottaly ignorant to this part of technology after researching tv's for a year!

i have seen the monster cable type at BB for $100/200? are these worth it. or are they marketing fluff like most of there cables, thanks

holyroman.....

This is ONE Monster product I DO recommend....the CleanPower DOES help smooth out AC ripple and reduce EMI and (some) RFI.....BUT....I myself use APC UPS devices on ALL my equipment -- HDTV, home theatre, PCs, etc. -- they're somewhat less expensive (go to APC's Outlet Store.... ;) ) and, IMHO, do an equally good job of protecting my investments.....

The way I look at it....if I'm gonna pay $1000s for "toys" I sure as heck don't mind swinging an extra $100 or so to protect them.....Good luck!

And.....yes....DO STAY WAY AWAY from M****** cables!!! The only thing they'll "clean up" .....is your WALLET!! For cables....go with Monoprice.com -- there are MANY on these fora who use them and are VERY pleased with their quality, price and service!!

I've been using a Belkin PureAV for a few weeks and am reasonably satisfied with it. Of course I got it cause it was a display model and price reduced (not used, just shown). Its also become a bit of a conversation piece, as its one of those that is seen with the rest of the equipment. Definitely get a good surge protector at a minimum before hooking anything up. The benefits of "power filtering" might be more long term, but a power spike could blow your toys up quick.

Like the last poster said, APC makes some good options.
