I tested my audio system using the Video Essentials DVD last night and found a very strange thing with surround sound.
If I configured the Sony DVP-S300 to output Dolby Digital, the Video Essential sound test (where pink noise moves clockwise around the room) sounded fine - the tone moved from left, to center, to right, to rear right, to rear left, and back to left.
If I configured the DVD player to output PCM with surround sound, then the sound was wacko: it went from left to center, to right, then to both rear speakers equally, then to front RIGHT, then to front LEFT.
Is this a problem with the DVD, the DVD Player or the AV Receiver (this is a Yamaha RX-V992)?

(BTW, I've cross posted to the DVD forum as well)
