Surround Speaker Question

754 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  jzoz01
I will be running a Denon 3808, Ascends across the front...looking to use these as my side surrounds LINK

Do you see any issues with the fact that these are 4 ohms and the Ascends are 8? Anything to worry about? Does anyone currently have these surrounds and care to talk about their performance. Thanks.

Can't comment on this speaker, but running a 4 ohm surround off of that Denon shouldn't be a problem. It will be a bit louder out of the box, but run Audssey and it'll be fine.

Are you saying that it will be louder because it's 4 ohm vs 8 ohm? That's not true. The volume depends on the speaker sensitivity which depends on the overall design. There may be no correlation between speaker impedance and the sensitivity.

I do agree that the 4 ohm should not be a problem mixed with the 8 ohm speakers. They're driven by separate amps and so the loads are (mostly) independent.

If the sensitivities are exactly the same, and fed the same signal, the 4 ohm speaker will be 3db louder. The 4 ohm speaker will present half the load to the receiver and draw double the current.
