Surround speakers in ceiling or side walls?

251 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  lktanx
Hi,

Due to a lack of space on my HT side walls, I might be forced to place my surrounds in the ceiling. Are there any disadvantages of doing this relative to the side walls?

You are not supposed to know where the surround sound is coming from so whether it's mounted in the walls or ceiling should not matter right? Any opinions or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Many folks here have used in-ceiling speakers for their surrounds. I would be if not for the fact that my room has 22 foot ceilings. Otherwise, I'd be using in-ceiling mounts.

Do a search and you'll find many happy folks with that set-up...

Good luck:)
Thanks for your feedback. I have searched this topic on the internet and invariably find suggestions to place the surrounds in the side walls as the first choice. They will go further to suggest mounting them in the rear wall or ceilings ONLY if you cannot mount them in the side walls. There is no mention of what the tradeoffs are.
