Quite a few people have the cs+, but I never see any posts on the ultra. As I really can't go listen to one, does anyone here own one or have any thoughts on them.

I have a single CS-Ultra power in a 12x14 theater room. Its the most ridiculous product I have ever bought. During movies with good LFE it sounds as if a vortex to hell has opened up. The raw output capability is staggering. I have never managed to bottom the sub. The bass is also amazingly clean.

My only complaint is that I have to leave the sub amplifier off during week nights to prevent the police from showing up. I have a single 250w amp powering the sub. I really can't imagine a subwoofer doing a better job.

I have twin SVS 16-46PC+s in a 12'x20' room, with two large openings in the rear. Per Tom V. at SVS, twin 16-46PC+s are definetly stronger than a single CS-Ultra, which makes sense. The shear clean output is incredible!

I guess what I'm trying to say is unless you have a really large, leaky room, one CS-Ultra should do just fine, to say the least.

Thank you for the good laugh!! I own a 20-39PC+ and i know what you mean, this weekend i notice i had white specs on my RPTV. It was from the ceiling man! The sub was making the sheet rock mud design on the ceiling to shake loose. How ridiculous is that?! I LOVE this sub!!!!!!!!!

The reason being that the Ultra is not much of a performance upgrade to the CS+, about 1.5-2db increase in clean output across the frequency range. For those needing the last ounce of output, then the Ultra would be sensible solution, however the price increase is not logical in comparisons to other models in a $$ per db ratio.

Na, i still would want/need more output for true reference lvl output down to 20hz, preferably lower especially in a large room. The B4+ is a good candidate, as is the Everast. The new PB2 sounds like an amazing performer, especially for the price, while my IB project plans (4 AV15) are underway, things will be very interesting. For those that cannot commit, twin PB2-plus should achieve reference lvl 121db at 25hz(stock tune)with minimal distortion characterisics.

Remember, there's no replacement for displacement, and 4 AV15's should/would provide insane clean output lvls.Figure in the region of 126db+ down to 16hz in a 3000 cubic foot room(with room gain), with minimal distortion.Eight av15s should provide a 12db increase across the frequency range, in other words the fear factor.

Do you guys know how the the new PB2+ compares with a CS-Ultra?

The PB2+ is almost twice the clean output of duel Ultras, as per Tom V's comments.

:D No kidding. These subs produce. I just got my 25-31 PC+ in my 2200 cubic ft sealed room. I never get the power past 1/3 and I can actually stir a mixed drink during good LFE scenes.

THebigcow how big is your room and is it sealed? Remember too that SVS has a 45 money back thing. So you can try a CS+ and if its too weak :D :D :D  you can send it back for an ultra. Also what do you plan to power it with?

Where did Tom say this? I have Dual Ultras and I can't imagine how two lesser drivers with less porting could possibly produce more output. But heck if its true I'm buying one because there's barely enough output from these things to knock me out of my recliner from 12ft away :D

As noted above, one has to be pushing the CS-Ultra pretty hard to hear any difference between it and the CS+. For example consider the person with the 250 watt amp. How much difference is there between a CS+ and a CS-Ultra when using a 250 watt amp? Perhaps a very trivial difference in distortion. It would be extremely hard to tell them apart with such an amp.

It does have it's market niche, albeit a smallish one. I suspect more people buy it because of its overall quality of build differences than for audible differences vs the CS+. It sure has a nice looking driver!

Compared to a single Ultra/500 watts(set to 20hz)...the PB-2(also set to 20hz) will have a good edge from 20-22hz and up. Tough to say exactly, but something in the 3-5dB area would be a good guess.
3-5db provides almost twice the clean output.

Correction, it was never said that the PB2+ could outperfrom duel Ultras, but rather it could approach them within 1-2db.

The output advantage would be 1.5-2db increase, so that could make the difference between bottoming, or playing a note cleanly.

goneten,

It's not my intention to contradict you but I just can't see any other way of interpreting what you wrote. I'm sure you meant something else by that last line:

"The PB2+ is almost twice the clean output of duel Ultras, as per Tom V's comments."

Sorry to bring it up again, Mitch

Btw.. I've had both A CS+ and Ultras and although I never compared measurements I'm confident that I could tell them apart, the Ultra was more forceful (and more difficult to position in the room). The amp I was using was a Crown CE-2000 (660w @ 4ohms).

I'm afraid this was your intention based on your quick response.Where does the confusion come from? There is nothing to contradict, so i'm confused where the supposed contradiction stemmed from.Mitchius, you stated that you couldn't believe that duel Ultras could produce less output, not necessarily in this order(or phrased in this order) but it was implied nonetheless.I stated that the PB2+ *almost* achieves duel Ultra performance, and i will stand by that statement.

These were Tom V's comments, feel free to disagree if you like, but the truth cannot be disregarded.I will reiterate and state that the PB2+ can outperform a single Ultra by 3-5db, and by doing the math you will expect almost twice the output, not TWICE THE OUTPUT indefinitely as you quickly suggest. In the pedantic sense, duel Ultras will outperform a single PB2+ by 1-2db, and that would explain why twice the output is nearly as in 'almost' achieved, as a 6db increase is the result of twin subwoofers corner loaded.
