I was all set to get the svs pb12-plus/2 but then I looked at the dimensions and wow it's big and I'm sure that size has a lot to do with how it performs but I can't find a place to put it...

I know a lot of you guys love these subs but if size were a consideration what would you get with a $1200 limit and would it compete with the plus/2?

Nonsense! Just look for you least favorite end table and throw it away! Your new SVS will look a lot better there!!! Seriously, if you make subwoofer choices based on available space (not performance), you'll probably end up disappointed.

If you have to have a smaller sub, I'd also demo the Velodyne SPL series (stay away from the Sunfire Super Jr), just my opinion.

Bob's design for a high-pressure, miniature sized subwoofer changed everything. With the Sunfire True Subwoofer, music and film enthusiasts could have real bass in a room that could never support a large, bulky, old-school subwoofer.

How do you improve on it? Add balanced inputs, a measurement microphone and internal contour circuitry that automatically optimizes the True Subwoofer EQ Signature to your individual listening/viewing room. The dimensions and physical volume of your room can affect bass, creating bumps and dips in frequency response. Certain bass frequencies are over-accentuated; others are noticeably shy.

To match the True Subwoofer EQ Signature to your room, place the measurement mic in your listening chair and follow four simple instructions. Voila! It's optimized.

Needless to say, the True Subwoofer EQ Signature is our flagship model. At 13 inches cubed, it produces huge bass from a box a fraction of the size of its competitors.

Powered by a special internal Sunfire 2700-watt amplifier using Bob's patented Tracking Downconverter power supply technology, the Sunfire True Subwoofer EQ Signature simply has no equal.
cheers!

Paradigm PW-2200 or Seismic 12 would work well in that price range.

Haha, I was considering changing my SVS PC+ 20-39 for a PB2 Plus but after looking at the box specs its almost exactly the same size as one of my end tables. Same height and length, just not quite as wide.

I have a very big and unfortunate space for HT witch is why I was leaning towards the Plus/2... I live in a loft with 20ft ceilings and an open living/dining room that's 28 x 31 but there is more bad news, the room has two large openings, one is an open kitchen with a hallway, the other is a 15X4 opening on the second level in to my bed room...

Maybe I should just make space for the plus/2... would there be much difference if I was to get the signal Plus it is slightly smaller but I guess the Plus/2 will fill the space with sound a lot more...

vivid,

Contact SVS with your concerns and ask for a product suggestion.

If you have any construction ability (or know / can hire someone) consider an IB sub. It will cost less than your budget and outperform all the commercial offerings you are considering. The drawback is that you'll need to cut an opening into another large sealed area (like a basement or attic).

Aren't we qualified enough here to make an advice? I would recommend to use 1 or two PB10-ISD, this solution will remove any problem with the space, make enough SPL, will have a flat FR ... and finally the quality of sounding will be quite close to PB2-Ultra (not absolutely the same, but very satisfactory): http://www.***************.com/htsth.../page/0#655143

Actually I auditioned PB Ultra and PB10-ISD in approximately 80x60x30 feet room = 144000 cubic feet ... PB Ultra was just perfect and PB10-ISD could use an additional PB10-ISD to produce higher level of SPL, though I can't say it was bad even being alone ...

This is the rough lay out of my place... the best location that I can see is behind the TV and LCR speakers... But to fit the PM12-Plus/2 I would have to move the TV out several inches

So Gordon you say go with the PB10-ISD over the PB12-ISD or PM12-Plus?

In my opinion the best place for your sub is - left picture, right side, in the right upper corner of the living room.

Since the room is quite large, I would recommend to use higher power sub then PB10-ISD, may be better PB12 Plus, due to it's PEQ (could be quite useful for your room). In this case you don't need to move anything.

I would also recommend to use the receiver or AV processor with acoustic calibration feature, in this case you will avoid some possible problems.

the more I think about it and take into everyone opinions I might just sacrifice the space and go with a PB12-Plus/2.

I do have a coupe of newbie qu:

1. what is PEQ?

2. you recommended using a receiver with acoustic calibration feature is this the ability to say small/large speaker size, set xover etc within the receiver? I have a Yam RX-V2095

It makes sense, IMO.

It is a Parametric Equalizer, any room has standing waves resonances, to compensate those PEQ is a useful tool.

Yes, almost any receiver with acoustic calibration has THX modes, those are designed to use electronic crossovers inside the receiver, the bass management is also usually quite good in such receivers, so you can use small speakers with musical sub, such as discussed SVS subs, for example.

I recommend to upgrade your receiver to at least Yamaha 1400 or 1500, 2400 or 2500 or Pioneer 55TXi or 56TXi - depends on your budget. But for such a good sub as PB12 Plus is, IMO it is not fair to use your old RX-V2095 receiver with only Dolby Pro-logic surround mode.

The main point for acoustic calibration is to make the FR flat ... that will benefit to the sound quality.

I was thinking about getting a new receiver but was planning on waiting till they come out with multiple DVI/HDMI switches... But my reviver does do DD, DTS and Pro Logic Decoding...

I know its not the best on the block right now but when it came out it was a good little receiver. Have receiver prices gone down? When I bought my RX-V2095 it was around the $1500 mark and now the 2500 is around the $1000 mark.

..you might check Definitive Tech's SuperCube models. They're somewhat on the small side. I have the Reference model.

Actually the pb12-isd/2 is the exact size for an end table! I was leaning toward the pb10 but I may splurge and get the isd/2 for the perfect fit and upgradability.

Anyone else doing this?
