SVS locations

363 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Ron Stimpson
I bought an SVS PB1 sub recently and enjoy it.

One thing I don't understand is why one of the principals , Ron is in Colorado, Tom, is located somewhere else, and the actual subs are manufactured in Ohio.

Why all the different locations for a relatively small company?

I would say that because it is an internet direct company, the physical location of the principals is really not a factor. They probably reside in their native locations and conduct the bulk of their business online.

However, since most of the distribution is probably more relative to say New England and the east coast and the surrounding area in comparison to Wyoming and its area, it probably is a more centrally location distribution center for their market share. Of course they are infecting everyone with their product and even people like myself, in Bermuda, will end up with a "black water heater" real real real soon (please). Then it probably becomes a cost issue, keep the overhead at a minumum, and the customer still gets to experience "the best bass for the dollar." Ohio seems like a good place for this.

I would be interested in where their R&D facility is because of the ever present growth and additional product line(s). Could they also provide me with the securty code in case I want to view their B4 during off office hours!!:D

I may be, probably am, completely wrong with this synopsis, however it makes sense to me. (well so does drinking myself silly and bottoming out my mirage sub at not even close reference levels.);)

Canman pretty much nailed it.

SVS has offices handling the various requiements of any business in Colorado, Michigan, New York and Ohio. We have suppliers in dozen other states, and one in Canada.

As you can imagine, all virtually linked thru the modern miracles of fax, phone, e-mail, WAN and cellular data/voice. It hardly matters any more that we're dispersed I think. Certainly production and R/D are centrally located in Ohio since those two issues are so closely linked.

We've found that some separation can actually be a good thing. You aren't in each other's hair all the time! Each of the office's geographic areas has developed the network of suppliers and supporting services we need to keep things running for you. We've spent thousands of hours working with some of our most trusted suppliers and never met them in person. Face to face is often helpful (we periodically have board of directors meetings at an off-site locaton... like a key supplier) but hardly critical with VTC, Voice Mail, E-mail, fax, snail mail and express delivery.

10 years ago SVS wouldn't have worked. Today we're convinced virtual organization with low overhead is the business model of the future. Time will tell, but the trend is good ;^)

I live just but a couple hours outside of Colorado Springs. Dont suppose you have any demo type locations in that area do you Ron?

I am ultimately going to be getting an SVS sub, but it would be nice to let me and the wife see/hear what we are getting. If not, no biggy, but just thought I would ask :)

Let me know!
77,

I've been known to host a demo or two out of my own home theater. Drop me an e-mail if you are going to be in the area.
