SVS PB10 vs. Velodyne DLS-3750R vs. ?

1645 Views 14 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  flyind
Both of these subs are roughly the same price, only I can easily purchase and audition the Velodyne, where as I have to have the SVS shipped with the risk of an additional charge to return it if I don't like it.

I've read plenty of great reviews of the SVS but could find little on the Velodyne.

Any opinions from those of you who've heard these subs or have compared them would be helpful. Thoughts on other options in this price range would be helpful.

I'll be pairing it with a Focal JM Lab Chorus S set up and driving it from a Pioneer 1014TX in a dedicated room where we only watch movies.

Thanks!

The Velodyne looks like a nice sub. According to Crutchfield, it has:

plus advanced circuitry that controls the sub's performance with pinpoint accuracy. The result is hard-hitting bass response with incredible detail and clarity. And the DLS-3750R even comes with a remote control, so you can adjust the sub's volume and access other functions with ease.

However, it's -3dB is at 28hz, whereas the SVS PB10 is at 18hz -3dB. The Velo has more features, but if you are looking for deep, powerful bass, the SVS PB10 is hard to beat for the price.
I agree with XC. It's a matter of your listening taste. I happen to like the Velo. subs because they are very smooth accurate and clean. Bruce Hall

said in a recent interview on HomeTheaterHI Fi.Com that Velodyne's

priority was low distortion and accuracy. SVS is known more for low deep bass output. Both subs are good choices, now it's up to you to decide.

Good luck and enjoy.

I find the PB10 to have the same "pinpoint accuracy" as the Vel's I've heard, but it should go much deeper with greater clean output than that model. There's a reason it's bigger.
I have a PB10 and am very happy with it for both movies and music. I can attest that it goes REAL low. It is a bit big, but if that's not a problem then I would go with the PB10. If you really hated it I am sure SVS would help you out, they are very helpful. I really can't believe that you will though.
Any Velodyne DLS owners out there want want to speak up for their sub?
What about the HSU VTF-2 MK2?

I was deciding between that and the Velodyne. Haven't purchased yet but planning on ordering the HSU soon.
One of the members bought a Velo DLS 5000R and claimed on another thread that it really kicked ass. Said he picked it up for $700.00 plus change. I tried to do a comparison thread between the 5000R and the SVS

PB 12 plus but got little response. Good Luck!

I have the DPS-12 version which is identical to the DLS-R series and Gary is right these subs do kick AZZ!

Firebladz.
I have had the Velo 3750 since mid December and am very happy with it. I admit I haven't run it through extensive testing or such. It is very smooth and certainly not "boomy" . I live in a townhome and can't fully crank it as I share walls. I do note I ticked off my neighbor watching "Independence Day" as the Velo was shaking things nicely at times. It is a very nice looking speaker as well. I like the remote although frankly I haven't really noticed a lot of difference between settings. Just my two cents worth.
Thanks everyone for your comments. I've heard a lot of good things about both these subs, and will have to try them out. I'll likely start with the Velodyne since I can pick it from a local store and return it without if I want to try the SVS.
Gary: I knew you would show up. Thanks for your support.

You got it dude :D
Well I went to my local big box store and demoed the Velodyne. It was ok, but i wasn't loving it, and the salesman kept trying to talk me in to the Klipsch Reference RW 10 even though I was there to here the Velodyne. I really hate big box stores!

Having not loved the Velodyne, I went straight to the web and ordered the SVS! I look forward to getting it soon!

Thanks again for all your help.
