SVS PB12-Ultra or PB12-Plus/2

These two babies are priced the same (black) yet seem to be in different clases. I realize the PLus/2 has two speakers vs one of the PB12-Ultra and has more output wattage.

Which one is going to have better *umph* / impact and quality?

do a search....plenty of info on this. You will get some variety of answers, but the consensus as well as SVS's position is this:

the PB12-Ultra will have a slightly better "sound quality"

the PB12-Plus/2 will have slightly more impact/air push

both are suberb

How large is your room and do you listen at very loud levels? Have you calibrated your system? Meaning can you tell us some level below reference (=your usual listening level)?

I ended up ordering my Ultra on Saturday, it shipped out on Wed. and my guys just unloaded it from the delivery truck!!! 6 days from order to delivery.

I'm not leaving the house this weekend.

If the Plus 2 fits, get it. It's huge, and IMO there's no comparison. But again, it's a monster and most people can't fit one in their listening room. We spent over 2 hours demoing all the SVS subs early this summer in Girard, Ohio. The Plus 2 is unreal with HT. As far as music goes, I still like the Plus 2, but there's not the spread between the two models for HT. Just my honest opinion. BTW, the Ultra bottomed out quicker than the Plus 2 with U571.

You know, it's funny, but I must have gotten a good one then. I've leaned on my Ultra pretty darn hard, enough to scare me at times, and while I have gotten it to compress, it's never clacked.

i'm with you tim......with the exception of a ouple of plus/2 owners, there has been nobody, including Tom and ROn at SVS, that will say the plus/2 "sounds" near or better than the ultra.....louder, maybe, better "sound", HELL NO.

but I guess that's the bottom line....

I suggest you contact Ron or Tom at SVS...they will tell you what is best for your situation.

I went through the same debate a few months ago.... I ended up with the plus/2. I've read all about the improved sound quality of the ultra and that made me curious, but then I thought that with 2 drivers the stress should be a lot less (1/2) and that by itself might make the plus/2 sound better than the ultra in the demanding passages.

So it's really a tossup, but the guys at SVS will be the first to tell you that the plus/2 is by far the best bang for your buck!

Both are awesome subs. If you don't buy an Ultra you will be wondering how much better it sounds compared to a Plus/2. I have gotten my Ultra to clack only once, playing Rush in

Rio (Neils drum solo)pretty frickin loud. My SPL said 112db. How loud do you need to go? How big is your room? Best SQ? Buy an Ultra. More db? Buy a Plus/2

This is the same question I had the most trouble with since starting this DAMN habbit/hobby/obsession! I don't envy you!LOL

Guess which one Ron Stimpson ownes?

I agree, the PB-12/2 has the best price performance ratio among the SVS box subs, however if money no object [well as far as SVS goes]] then I would get the Ultra/2.
