Audio noob here, wanted a little help please.

I have had a big screen plasma for a while, and am now looking at getting a surround sound system to go with it for movies. I am no audiophile, and my movie:music ratio is about 98%:2%. I am thinking strongly about purchasing the SVS Sb-01 5 speaker set for my HT. I just wanted a little feedback as to how these speakers fare for HT, or any alternative suggestions.

Also, if they are good for HT, can anyone suggest an appropriate receiver to accompany them?

Budget for speakers is 1000, budget for receiver is ??. Hopefully capped at 500.

THanks.

The SVS system is excellent for HT. I recommend e-mailing SVS, giving them your room dimensions to make sure the sub is adequate for your room size.

Here is your receiver.

Don't think you can go wrong with anything from SVS that I've seen and they still have some specials on unpopular colors right now. I choose PSB because they have towers...if SVS would have had their towers out I probably would have at least considered them. I would like to fill out the rest of my room with either PSB sats or possibly SVS...but I'll revisit that later on...the front stage is fine for now.

As for the receiver....like speakers there are so many to choose from. I have the Onkyo 604 and love it...like many right now I'm kicking myself for not holding out for the 605 but that's just life in the consumer electronics world...there's always going to be something better 2 weeks after you make your purchase. The things to look for are HDMI connections in 1.3, Dolby True HD, DTS-HD, WMA Pro...etc etc...these are the audio formats that will make your system as "future proof" as possible.
