I helped a friend set up his SBS-01 w/ PB12-NSD yesterday. His HK 347 is still shipping so we used his Sony STR-DG820 for the test run. Ran the auto calibration and I set the Sony's crossover at 70 hz. This point is only 2 hz above the capabilities of the speakers. While watching Kung Fu Panda i felt as though the midrange was missing. Im thinking about telling him to bump the crossover point to 90 or 100 hz.

My question is whoever on here has this speaker set-up and what do U set the crossover point at. I know bass seems to get localized in the higher octaves, but to fill in the missing migrange, this might be necessary.

Thanks for any opinions,

Matt

I would definitely set the crossover to at least 80hz (which is what SVS typically recommends for their bookshelf speakers) and bump up the subwoofer a few decibels as well. You can most definitely try 90 and 100hz as well, and I am not familiar with Sony's autocalibration. If you or your friend have an SPL meter, you may want to try calibrating with that. SVS sent me an AVIA DVD that I used the test tones on to calibrate my speakers and subwoofer and I preferred that method to Audyssey in my room.
